John Shaskas helped the effort when he bid a record $1,250 for Sue Hand's watercolor of the 1995 auction, painted on site the first three days, then framed by husband, Joe, in time for Sunday’s bid- ding. Other high-bid items in- cluded a tiger maple ¢corner cupboard that sold for $1,750 to a dealer from Virginia who said she would return each year, and $600 for a “Nittany Lion” wood carving by Rick Yanalu- nas. The Children’s Auction, run by Boy Scout Troop 281, netted more than $500, including $166 from the refreshment stand and about $100 from the Sand Art stand, Mrs. Harvey said. “It was an excellent turn- out,” she said: “The Scouts worked very hard - I'could see how happy they were to help out. The children who attended enjoyed themselves.” Harvey and the committee chairmen commended the many volunteers who donated their time to work at the auc- tion. Dallas Elementary School principal Ruth Tetschner won a mountain bike, coveted by nearly cycling enthusiast in the Back Mountain, in the raffle. She plans to give it to her grand- son, Luke Rusekas, on his tenth birthday in August. Other raffle winners were Scranton resident Andy Ander- son, first prize of a trip to the Bahamas and Rena Rothschild, who bought 200 tickets, and won a bag phone and a car de- tailing from Camelot Car Care. Raffle chairman Jennie Val- ick commended the women of the GFWC Harveys Lake for donating t.:e raffle tickets and helping to sell them. The Children’s Bike Tour, called Team Kids, is designed to enable the entire family to participate in this very special fun-filled fun- draising event, Sunday, July 30 at the Dallas Area High School. Team Kids will be made up of two age groups: Children age 4-7 and children ages 7-12. Entry fee is only $10. In addition to the good feeling of helping Hospice SaintJohn, children will receive a special commemorative t-shirt and a gift certificate from Wendy's. The children’s ride, which be- gins at 2 p.m., covers a.much shorter and safer route than the adults. Smaller children will ride no more than 100 yards. The older children may be challenged to ride one-half mile or more. Team Kids is open to all chil- dren, not just those whose par- ents are registered for the Hospice Hundred. LE Fair board will meet July 19 The Luzerne County fair board will meet July 19 at 7 p.m. at the county fairgrounds on Route 118. All board members are asked to attend. President Clem Norman, an- nounced that the fair has ob- tained new bleachers that will seat 600 people, bringing total seating capacity up to 1,000 in the enter- tainment and horse arena area. Any purchase over $2,000 must be approved by the board or in an emergency by the executive com- mittee. The fair board has also named Dick Williams, John Eubanks, Ralph Sands, Art Parks and Al Raginski to an ad hoc committee to research the purchase of ‘a tractor for use on the fairgrounds.
