‘2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, July 5, 1995 College appoints interim president The Board of Trustees at Col- lege Misericordia has named Al- bert Bernt Anderson, Ph.D., of Plymouth, Minnesota, as the in- terim president of the Dallas col- lege, said Dr. Sarah Ellen Le- nahan, '68, Board chair. Dr. Anderson will replace Carol A. Jobe, Ph.D., who announced her resignation as Misericordia president on Friday, June 9, ef- fective June 30. Dr. Anderson will begin a two- year term as interim president on Monday, July 10. During his tenure, the College will conduct a nationwide search for a perma- nent president, Dr. Lenahan said. “We are very pleased that Dr. Anderson accepted our invitation to serve as interim president,” Dr. Lenahan said. “His 32-year ca- reer in high education will serve Misericordia well.” Dr. Anderson said he and his wife Anita are looking forward to joining the College Misericordia community. “I am delighted and honored by the Misericordia Board of Trus- tees’ decision and proud to have a part in furthering Misericordia's mission,” he commented. Sister Maureen McCann, RSM, president of the Sisters of Mercy Dallas Regional Community, said the sisters, who founded Miseri- cordia in 1924 and sponsor the College, are pleased to welcome Dr. Anderson to Misericordia. “We are delighted by the ap- pointment of Dr. Albert Anderson as interim president,” Sister McCann, RSM, said. “We believe that he can further the mission of the College by moving Misericor- dia fromits present point of growth to a new level of excellence in higher education.” Dr. Anderson is a member of the Registry for Interim College and University Presidents, an organization which provides ex- perienced presidents for limited periods of time to colleges and universities across the country. The Registry, which is run by Thomas H. Langevin and Associ- ates, Inc., of Lady Lake, Florida, lists 33 former college and univer- sity presidents who are available to serve as interim presidents. Other former presidents on the registry are available for consul- taiton. According to Dr. Lenahan, “The Registry’s placement policies state that the interim presidents listed with the Registry shall have had no previous connection with the institution to be served; that the interim president will be appointed for a set period of time; and the interim president will not be a candidate for the permanent presi- dency.” Since 1990, Dr. Anderson has served as director of the Restora- tion and Endowment Fund, Ba- silica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, and as managing partner of An- derson/Swenson Inc., a consult- ant firm specializing in strategic planning management and fund- ing, located in Minneapolis. Dr. Anderson also has served as vice president and director of development, planning and ad- ministration at the University of Minnesota/Foundation; as direc- tor of development for the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs; as vice president for insti- tutional advancement at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa; as presi- dent of Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, North Carolina; as pro- vost of the Tri-College University in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota; and as a professor of philosphy at various colleges in Minnesota. His degrees include a Ph.D. from Harvard University, a mas- ter of arts degree from the Univer- sity of Minnesota, master of di- vinity degree from Luther Theo- logical Seminary in St. Paul, and 2 BERNT ANDERSON, PhD a bachelor of arts degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. Dr. Anderson has published many articles on philosophy and religion, and has completed a book to be published next year by the Indiana University Press. He also received numerous fel- lowships and scholarships, in- cluding the Danforth Teaching Fellowship, and has been chosen for membership in the American Council of Learned Societies.
