4 Back Mountai Library Auction Dalias, PA July 5,1995 = Chairmanship's in her blood Auction chairman Peggy Harvey never thought she'd be asked to head the annual event which has become a way of life for her family. “My sisters were astounded, but my mother was very proud,” she said, laughing. “Mom said I'm just like my father, always volunteering to help out.” Peggy's father, the late Dr. LesterJordan, was auction chairman in 1961. Peggy describes him as “the kind of person who would rather jump in, roll up his sleeves and get to work than simply sit back watching others.” In the auction's early years, farmers often donated livestock, dogs and cats for sale. Dr. Jordan occasionally brought home a dog which had been donated but hadn't found a home, Peggy recalled. Her favorite was a big collie-German shepherd. Auction chairman are usually groomed for the job, serving as co-chairmen the preceding year, but a last-minute glitch left the event without a leader when Adrienne Robinson suddenly found out she wouldn't be able to be chairman, Peggy POST PHOTO/GRACE R. DOVE Peggy Harvey may have auction chairman's genes, since her father, Dr. Lester Jordan, was-chairman in 1961. 1947 - Howard Risley 1948 - Howard Risley 1949 - Howard Risley 1950 - Durelle Scott, Jr. 1951 - Harry Ohiman 1952 - Chick Smith 1953 - Charles Thuss 1954 - Robert Bachman 1955 - William Wright 1956 - Howard Risley 1957 - Raymon Hedden 1958 - Charles Frantz 1959 - Donald Smith 1960 - Myron Baker 1961 - Lester Jordan 1962 - Richard Demmy 1963 - Robert Fleming 1964 - Frank Huttman 1965 - Merl Faegenberg 1966 - Jerome Gardner 1967 - Harry Lefko 1968 - Donald Anthony 1969 - George McCutcheon 1970 - Robert Richardson 1971 - John Casner Auction chairpersons through the years 1972 - Clarke Bittner 1973 - William Umphred 1974 - James Anazalone 1975 - John Sheehan 1976 - Howard Strom 1977 - Kerry Freeman 1978 - Rena Rothschild 1979 - William Spurlin 1980 - Joyce Krivenko 1981 - James Eason 1982 - Joseph Killeen 1983 - Joanne Freeman 1984 - James Anzalone 1985 - Monty Evans 1986 - John Shaskas 1987 - Debbie Dinger 1988 - John Shaskas 1989 - John Shaskas 1990 - Connie Scott 1991 - Monty Evans 1992 - Connie Scott 1993 - Bill Jones 1994 - Joe Kluger 1995 - Peggy Harvey said. “The board asked me to be chairman in be : March,” she said. “I never thought in a ..nobody can do it alone. theres yours they ask me : ie job Si You need good people to work respons are so muc e . ’ PE ibenshiiy igger tian with, as I have had.’ Peggy credits her predecessor, Joe Peggy Harvey Kluger, and co-chairmen Connie Scott and "95 Auction chairman Ernie Ashbridge with making her work much easier. the tents and a trash hauler.
