Kirkendall's son, Fred, Jr., is incarcerated at the Luzerne County Prison without bail on ohe charge of criminal homicide, one count of criminal attempted homicide and two counts of ag- gravatéd assault in connection with the shotgun slaying of his grandfather, Charles Besteder, 81. Fred Kirkendall, Sr., was wounded in the'June 11 attack. Kirkéndall, Sr., sustained wounds to the right chest and back after being shot with a'.16 gauge shotgun. By GRACE R. DOVE Pest taff KINGSTON TOWNSHIP —- Two young, burglary suspects hoping to elude police by fleeing the scene on- their mountain bikes were arrested June 12 in Frances Slocum State Park. - According to township police, Ronald E. Kuzminski, 19, of Larksville and a 14-year-old male juvenile from Edwardsville were arrested after being identified by one of the victims. .-The suspects had stolen a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistoland ‘two loaded clips from a home on Mount Olivet Road, then fled a second home after being spotted by the owner. The suspects fled on their bikes through the woods into the state park, police said. He's on a ventilator to help him breathe.” Doctors are also concerned about the blood flow to Kirken- dall's legs, Miers added. The suspect's preliminary hear- ing, originally scheduled for June 21 before District Magistrate James Tupper, has been contin- ued, with no new date set. He will be represented by attorneys from the Public Defenders office, Miers said. Visiting home on an eight-hour pass from Clarks Summit State Hospital, James Kirkendall, Jr., told a witness and police he shot his father and grandfather June 11 because Satan had told him to. Burglary suspects on bikes nabbed at park ognized Kuzminski from a radio message and held him in custody until police arrived with the vic- tim who identified him, police said. During the Kuzminski admitted to more than 30 burglaries at homes on the West Side, police said. He was arraigned before District Magis- trate Feissner on two counts of burglary, two counts of criminal trespass and one count of crimi- nal mischief He is lodged in the Luzerne County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. The male juvenile is in the custody of juvenile detention authorities.
