Tickets can be purchased at th proceeds benefit residents of the Center. Showing off prizes donated by members Rachel Hale and Shirley Yellitz. clinical specialist (oncology) and hospice coordinator at the Wilkes- Barre Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, has been annual “Quality of Life Lecture- ship” Award, by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), a large organization of nurses involved in cancer care. Mrs. Smith is well known for programs she has initiated for improvements in cancer care, including outpatient chemother- apy clinics, support programs and liaison with community agencies. Mrs. Smith initiated and coordi- nates the hospice program at the VA Medical Center, which has been commended as a model program and has served as a train- ing and resource center for other medical centers starting up new programs. She has published numerous papers on cancer care and has lectured at the National Cancer Institute, National Hospice Or- ganization, ONS congress, and other national meetings.
