He believes council should work together for the betterment of the community. He served on council previously “for five years and was involved in ‘the purchase of three new road ‘trucks and three new police cars, the completion of numerous road projects and an addition built onto the Robert Wintersteen Recrea- tional Building. He is self-employed, owning Wilson Construction Company. He belongs to the Harveys Lake Lions and the Daniel C. Roberts Fire Company. He and his wife, Nancy, and their son, Jason, live at the Sandy Beach area of the lake. Kasko seeks second term as Jackson Twp. supervisor Andrew Kasko, Jr. of Kasko Road, Shavertown, has an- nounced his candidacy for his second term as Jackson Town- ship supervisor on the Democratic ticket. A lifelong resident of the town- ship, Kasko graduated from ‘Lehman High School in 1951. He served as a second-class machin- ist in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years. For 20 years he was adJackson Township police officer and is retired from his job as supervisor of Luzerne County's flood control unit. He is a life member of the Jackson Township Fire and Ambulance Company, with which he served 20 yers as a firefighter. He is a past president of the fire company. . Kasko is also a member of the George M. Dallas Lodge (ancient Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite), Caldwell Consistory of the Valley of Bloomsburg, Irem Temple, American Legion Post 0967 Harveys Lake and the Back Mountain Police Association, of which he is also a past president. Since his retirement he has donated his time to the township, working on the roads and wher- ever he has been needed. be ANDREW KASKO, JR. Local pilots try again in 3,000 mile air race Back Mountain pilots Gerry Cooper and Charles Gordon will set out April 29 on a 3,000 mile roundtrip journey for the 11th Annual Great South Air Race Competition in Florida. Both adventurers flew last year's air race for the first time. They will fly from the Wyoming Valley Airport at Forty Fort in their Cessna 172 for the long trip down the coast to Panama City, Florida for the start of the air race that will take them out over the Atlantic Ocean. For six days, May 1-7, the tiny cabin of the airplane will seem like home to the pilots as they travel the almost 2,000 miles race route from Panama City to Free- port in the Bahamas. They'll fly over Cross City, In- verness, Fort Pierce, Bimini, Governor's Harbour, Exuma Inter- national, San Salvador, Rock Sound, Marsh Harmour, Walker's Cay and Freeport, passing through the Bermuda Triangle. Cooper and Gordon are hoping to cash in on the more than $20,000 in cash, awards and prizes awarded during ceremo- nies May 7 at Freeport. Cooper is a corrections officer at the State Corrections Institute at Retreat in Hunlock Creek. He resides in Lake Silkworth. Gordon operates Gordon In- Pikes Creek.
