Special Achievement Award from ' Penn State University at a confer- + ence for directors of University Relations and Development. The first-time “Commitment to Excellence” award was presented to Robinson in recognition of his acquisition for the Wilkes-Barre Campus of the largest single gift ever in the Commonwealth Edu- cation System. Prior to becoming Director of Development in January, 1980, Robinson was director of engi- neering for over 20 years at Bell of PA based in Wilkes-Barre. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State. He has served on the Economic Development Council of N.E. ‘Pennsylvania, United Way of Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club, Westmoreland Club and Luzerne/Wyoming County Drug and Alcohol Planning Coun- cil. . Heis currently president of the board of Dial-A-Driver and a board member of the Greater Wilkes- Barre Association for the Blind. oo SHAWN MARHELSKI “Marhelski completes “USAF basic training ‘*. Air Force Airman Shawn S. ‘Marhelski has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Civic groups honoiDallas Middle School students Recently five Back Mountain civic organizations volunteered to sponsor award plaques honoring outstanding achievements accom- plished by students in the Dallas Middle School. The Dallas Area Federated Woman's Club sponsored the Jane M. Stitzer Memorial Spelling Bee Award won by David Williams. Daddow-Isaacs Post 672 spon- sored the American Legion Award to the eighth grade students who possess special qualities of patri- otism, citizenship and scholar- ship. Brian Blase and Jennifer Vodzak were the 1994 recipients. The Rotary Club sponsored the William W. Kubis Award which is given to a student who exempli- fles a postiive attitude toward the responsibilities of a student and citizen. Brian Blase was selected for this award. The Citizens Advisory Com- mitee to the Dallas Board of Education sponsored the Perfect Attendance Award, earned by David Williams and Matthew Litz. This award is based on three years of perfect school attendance. The Dallas Education Associa- tion sponsored the Outstanding Student Award for the highest grade point average for the year in grades 6, 7 and 8. Last year the winners were: sixth grade Jamie Miller; seventh grade Segan Millington; eighth grade David Wil- liams. The students’ names will be engraved onto each plaque which will be displayed in the lobby of the Dallas Middle School.
