North of the Wyoming Valley Mall, just past entrance to Pocono Downs Racetrack Mellon Bank will display Charles Woodworth's art Artwork by Charles “Woody” Woodworth will be on display in the lobby of the Dallas branch of Mellon Bank, Main Street, Dallas, through the end of December. Woodworth has been painting for about nine years, and began painting plein air style last year. Many of the artworks on dis- play feature his plein air art work, including a scene of sheep near a pond, a stark winter tree com- pleted outdoors on location in six- degree weather and a pastel sun- set over Wyoming Valley created while he sat on the roof of his car during his dinner break from work. His artwork was chosen to appear in the 1995 edition of the WRGN “Scripture Verse” calen- dar and an interview with the artist appeared this past summer in “Air Currents,” the newsletter of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society, of which Woodworth is a signature member. Woodworth is the assistant manager of Design Galleries at the Wyoming Valley Mall. He serves on the board of the Cider Painters of America. The public is invited to view the exhibit during normal banking hours, through the end of Decem- ber. pine Brook Inn displays Dallas artist's paintings Paintings by Helene Gurdin of Dallas will be on display at the Pine Brook Restuarant, Dallas, through the middle of January. Gurdin's favorite painting medium is oil. She also works occasionally in acrylic, pastel, ink and mixed media. She became interested in paint- ing by watching the art students at the Jewish Community Center in Staten Island, NY. After study- ing art with Diane Gabay, New York, for two years, she moved to Dallas. She has studied with Sue Hand since 1988. The paintings on display pro- vide the viewer with a variety of subject matter: a floral of a Mother's Day bouquet, local scenes of Cook's Variety Store, Lehman and the old roller coaster at Harveys Lake and a scene of the Colorado mountains with a cow- boy. Gurdin’'s hobbies are garden- ing and taking care of both a salt water and fresh water aquarium filled with fish. Two of Gurdin's granddaugh- ters find their artistic outlet through drama and costume design and painting. The paintings by Helene Gur- din can be viewed at the Pine Brook Restaurant, Dallas, during regular dining hours or by ap- pointment by calling 675-3550.
