Lake-Lehmna roundup SOCCER Lehman wins district playoff A pair of first quarter goals October 28 enabled the Black Knights to advance to the semi- final match in District II soccer playoff action. Charles Snyder commenced the scoringat2:16in the first with an assist from Dan Dulebohn. Mike Yablonski fol- lowed up with another at 5:33 assisted by Jeremy Fleeger. Lehman 4 - Bishop Hoban 3 Keeper Shannon Kelly was the hero the Knights needed October 31 as Lehman defeated Hoban 4- 3 and now advances to the Class AA title game November 3 against Meyers. Jeremy Fleeger sailed two goals past the Hoban defense in regula- tion play. Tim Brislin added another to even the score at three apiece. After four overtimes and with the score still tied Lehman edged Hoban in the shootout 3-2, when Kelly worked his magic denying shots from the offense with spectacular diving saves. The title game will be held at 7 p.m. at Wyoming Valley West Stadium, Thursday, November 3. FOOTBALL Nanticoke 27 - Lehman 12 Despite consistent play from unexpected backup players the Knights could not come up with the big plays needed to overcome Nanticoke October 28 as Lehman lost 27-12. Sophomore Chris Woronko stepped in for injured quarter- back John Oliver Jr., Friday night after Oliver suffered an ankle in- jury in the first series against Nanticoke. Oliver's injury com- bined with an injury to tackle Chuck Kindler left the Knights vulnerable to the powerful Trojan squad. Despite the loss of Lehman manpower the Knights played a respectable game. : Fullback Mike Adamshick led the Lehman ground attack with 104 yards on eight carries includ- ing a 59 yard run for the first Lehman score. The point after was missed to leave the score tied at 6-6. The Knights next scoring drive didn't come until the fourth quarter when Woronko tossed an 18 yard touchdown to Tim Waslick to lift the score to 21-12. The two- point conversion attempt failed. Lehman (6-3) will now regroup and prepare for the “Old Shoe” game Saturday, Nov. 5. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY The Knight pacers rounded up a fourth place finish at the Dis- trict finals October 27.
