The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, October 19, 1994 aT Th ET Sue Hand's seascape to visit international exhibit Dallas artist Sue Hand has just received notification that her watercolor seascape, “Tis the Glory of the Light,” has just been ac- cepted into the prestigious Inter- national Society of Marine Paint- ers annual juried exhibition at the United States Merchant Ma- rine Academy, Kings Point (Long Island), New York. The paining, a blue and golden composition of granite rocks at the waters edge on Mount Desert Island, Maine, is filled with high- lights on water and waves and rough rock textures. Hand is represented by several galleries on the Coast of Maine as well as Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. This past summer, two of her seascapes were purchased from a Maine gallery for a large private art collection in Switzerland. Her paintings of landscapes, florals and still lifes of the Back Moun- tain countryside and the Wyo- ming Valley have been popular with collectors for years. Hand has owned and operated an art studio in her hometown of Dallas for the past 19 years. She is a member of nearly 20 art groups, including the national Guild of Natural Science Illustra- tors, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, an honorary member of the Australian Miniature Art Society (for which she served as a founding consultant) and a founder and signature member of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society. The International Society of Marine Painters will conduct its annual juried exhibit at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York October 21 - December 11, and is open to the public through the auspices of the American Merchant Mar- inee Museum Foundation. Student artist exhibits work | Artwork by Robert “R.J.” Barna will be on display in the lobby of Mellon Bank, Main Street, Dallas through November 5 during regu- lar banking hours. The exhibits consist of a series of self portrait cartoons; a realis- tic self portrait, florals, still lifes and other mixed media composi- tions. Barna, a consistent prize win- ner in art competitions, works in graphite, colored pencil, oil pastel and marker. His goal is tobecome a professional cartoonist. Barna is a sixth grade student at Gate of Heaven School and has been taking art lessons since first grade. He has studied under Sue Hand, Karen Shelly, Leigh Pawl- ing and John O'Connell. He draws as much as possible, filling as many as three sketch books per month, and he drew nearly every day all summer long. Besides being actively involved in art, he plays basketball and base- ball. Barna resides in Dallas and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barna. He has one sister. Fall fair Oct. 29-30 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth, is having its sec- ond annual Fall Fair, Oct. 29 and 30 in the church hall. . Saturday's festivities will begin after the 5 p.m. liturgy and con- tinue until 9 p.m. Food will in- clude homemade soups, wings, hot dogs and wimpies. There will be a costume parade with many prizes (for the young people). A cash and prize bingo will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. .
