All districts must adopt (OBE) over the next three years. While it has been billed as the most sig- nificant reform in education pol- icy in decades, many parents and taxpayers are still uncertain what its human or monetary cost will be. On August 31, at8 p.m. WVIA's area children of this significant but often poorly understood set of changes. A number of school districts in Northeastern Pennylvania have already spent a year preparing for the transition to OBE. To its proponents, it represents a much needed revision of a curriculum that has been in place for some 30 years. LCCC starts interior design program The Luzerne County Community College Office of Community Services will offer an Interior Design Program on Mondays and Thurs- days, beginning Sept. 22, 6-10 p.m., at the college’s Educational Conference Center in Nanticoke. This credit-free program will include a practical “hands-on” ap- proach to design as well as cover the theoretical foundations and elements of interior decorating. Hoda- kowski, III, Dallas; Anthony J. Welgosh, Shavertown and Deborah Baird, Shavertown were among the 55 graduates at the 1994 summer commencement held August 13 at King's College, Wilkes-Barre. Carr received his bachelor of science degree in biology; Hodakowski received his bachelor of science degree in accounting; Welgosh received his bachelor of science degree in finance; and Baird graduated magna cum laude with her bachelor of science degree in the physician assistant program. Scott Walters was named high Chemistry student for the year and Karen Kocher earned fourth quarter honor student. Both students were presented with savings bonds and certifi- cates of recognition of outstanding, school and community achieve- ment. Scott was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, National English Merit Award, Outstanding Science Student-Luzerne County Science Teachers Associaton, Engineer- ing Expo at Wilkes University, J.E.T.S. at Pennsylvania State University, Scholastic Excellence Award - United States Marine Corps. Athletic honors include three varsity letters in soccer, varsity letter in tennis, licensed EPYSA soccer referee, Selected WVC Coaches All-Star team in soccer, Lake-Lehman Soccer Association, Book Scholarship Award, Keystone State Games, racquetball. He will attend the University of Pittsburgh and is a candidate for a four year scholarship with the Navy ROTC at Carnegie- Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
