Col. Leonard J. Ruotolo will assume command of the 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery, at Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 11, Ruotolo succeeds Lt. Col. Brian J. Gallagher, who is transferring to the Pennsylvania National Guard state headquarters. Ruotolo, 47, attended King's College for three years and gradu- ated from the Pennsylvania Col- lege of Podiatric Medicine in 1977. He served in the Marines from 1965 until 1974, was commis- sioned a second lieutenant in 1968 and reached the rank of captain, UPS honors Knaur commanding a rifle company in Vietnam in 1969. Colonel Ruotolo is also a gradu- ate of the U.S. Army Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the U.S. Army Command and Gen- eral Staff College at Fort Leaven- worth, Kansas, and the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, in 1993. While in the Marines and as- signed to Fort Ord in California, he met and married Kathleen M. Ledford of Lodi, California.
