Exceptional students Recently 24 seventh grade students from the Dallas Middle School participated in the annual Johns Hopkins Talent Search for exceptional and/or verbal reasoning abilities. Earns honors at Keystone Thomas Richard Dower, Dal- las, was selected the Keystone Junior College Outstanding Tra- ditional Graduate at the college's 123rd Commencement Ceremony on May 21. Dower graduated Summa Cum Laude with an associate in arts degree in liberal arts, obtaining a 3.84 overall grade point average. Qualifications for Outstanding Graduate awards include a mini- mum cumulative grade point average of 3.20, demonstrated leadership in campus organiza- tions, and potential for achieve- ment and success in future en- deavors. At Keystone, Dower served as president of Student Senate, presi- dent of F.A.D.E. (Facing Alcohol and Drugs through Education), a member of the Orientation Com- mittee and an orientation leader. He was a resident assistant for the Office of Student Affairs and coordinating secretary for the Center for International Activities at Keystone. Dower was the 1994 recipient of the Student Affairs Leadership Award and was selected by the National Council of Independent Junior Colleges as a 1994 Na- tional Junior College President's Academic All-American Scholar of Distinction. In the community, he ws active with both the Lackawanna snd Wyoming County chapters of Habitat for Humanity, and was a founding member of the Wyoming County chapter. He participated in the Little Brother/Little Sister Program with the local elementary school and the alternative spring break trip to the Kentucky Appalachian Mountain Region for volunteer work. Dower plans to attend Ameri- can Unviersity in Washington, D.C. and study political science. A graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School, he is the son of Mary Dower, Dallas.
