10 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, May 18, 1994 BMT Little League Rangers lone unbeatens ' By DAVE KONOPKI * Sports Writer : Teams in the National League continued their cutthroat play, while the Rangers remained the ‘lone unbeaten and created some distance between themselves and ‘the rest of the American League ‘as Back Mountain Baseball, Inc. . completed its fourth week of major ‘league baseball action. At week's end, the Dodgers, ‘under head coach Tom Dough- ‘erty, (6-2) found themselves atop ‘the National League standings, ‘one half game ahead of the Giants (5-2) and head coachg Bob Bayer. In the American League, the ‘Rangers, under head coach Tom ‘Evans, remained unbeaten (8-0) ‘and built a three-game cushion ‘over the second-place Tigers (5-3) ‘under head coach Jim Wisnieski. + All major league managers are reminded that a detailed letter, ‘describing how and when to re- port game results, is located in ‘the concession stand. Faneck went the distance, striking out nine in six innings while allowing just three hits. Whitehead was just as impressive, striking out 11 bat- ters in just four innings while allowing three hits. Mike Faneck (double), Tim Faneck (single) and Brian Vetter (single) had the only hits for the Rangers, who scored both runs in the third inning. Josh Lesinski (single), Josh Katyl (single) and Matt Hoover (double) had the only hits for the Phillies. RANGERS 12 - YANKEES 3 Matt Wyecallis had collected four hits, including a double, to lead a balanced Ranger offense. Nate Hoffman added two hits for the winners while teammates Brian Vetter and Chris Organek had a double apiece. Tim Faneck picked up the mound win while Darrell Evans struck out four in two innings of relief. ~ Brad Feleccia had a double and triple to lead the Yankees while Steve Federspiel also had two hits, including a double. Matt Zinn had the only other hit for the Yanks. Robbie Werner also had a hit. TIGERS 10 - RED SOX 6 Four Tiger players had two hits apiece to lead them over the Red Sox. Kyle Reid, Paul Wisnieski, Randy Knappman and Brian ‘Barrett each had two hits with Wisnieski getting a triple and Reid and Knappman a double apiece. Knappman picked up the mound win, striking out five in three innings. Dave Spurlin led the Red Sox with a triple and double while Andrew Lohin added a pair of ‘singles. ‘DODGERS 12 - RED SOX 0 A trio of pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Dodg- ers blanked the Red Sox. Win- ning pitcher Colin McHale com- ‘bined with Matt Loftus and Steve ‘Moyer on the three-hitter. John Isaac and Moyer each had three ‘hits to lead the Dodger offense while T.J. Dougherty, Loftus and Dave Meholchik each added a pair of hits apiece. + Lukasavage, Larson and Dave ‘Spurlin had the lone hits for the ‘Red Sox. * - REDS 6 - PHILLIES 2 Jon Habrack used his pitching and hitting talent to lead the Reds over the Phillies. Habrack went the distance on the mound, allow- ing just three hits. He also had two of the Reds’ four hits. David Jumper and J.C. DeRojas had the other hits for the winners. Ryan Sorber took the loss, despite allowing just two runs and two hits over four innings while striking out nine. Sorber had a double for the Phillies. CARDINALS 7 - TIGERS 2 Winning pitcher Mike Regan allowed just two hits over three innings to lift the Cardinals. Matt Metz led the Cards’ offense with three hits while Regan, Mike Tanner and John Pitcavage had two hits apiece, including a triple by Pitcavage. Justin Tamanini and Kyle Reid each had a double for the Tigers while Randy Knappman had the other hit for the Tigers, a single. GIANTS 11 - PIRATES O Mike Domzalski struck out eight batters in five innings to lift the Giants over the Pirates. Tom Byron led the Giant offense with three hits while Jimmy Belles had two, including a double. Domzal- ski also had a double for the winners. Jordy Spencer and Adam Pelak had the lone hits for the Pirates, both singles. ASTROS 10 - ORIOLES 4 Dave Walters led the Astros with three hits, including a triple, as the Astros downed the Orioles. Matt Harrison had three singles for the Astros while Mike Stanis- low (double) and Jimmy Higgins (double/triple) each had two hits apiece for the winners. Damien Temperine picked up the win. Ted Start had an outstanding game at the plate for the Orioles, banging out four doubles. Ed Krasniak added a double for the Orioles. GIANTS 8-A’s 7 Mike Bayer utilized smart base- running to score what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Giants held off the A's. Joel Whipple had a triple and double for the win- ners while Tom Byron had two hits including a double. Mike Domzalski picked up the mound win. Matt Jackson led the A's with two hits, including a double while Adamchik had two singles and Dan Marashio added adouble. PIRATES 7 - ASTROS 6 Dave Norris'fifth hit of the game knocked in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to lead the Pirates over the Astros. Mike Kashnicki had four hits for the Pirates and picked up the win, striking out 10 in going the dis- tance. Jordy Spencer added two hits for the winners. Greg Stanis- low and Damien Temperine led the Astros with two hits apiece, including a triple by Stainslow and a double by Temperine. GIANTS 9 - DODGERS 2 Winning pitcher Joel Whipple was in complete control, striking out nine batters in going the dis- tance. Whipple also led the Giant offense with two hits, including a double while Jimmy Belles, Mike Domzalski and Mike Bayer each had a double for the winners. Josh Bryant had two hits, includ- ing a double for the Dodgers while teammate Matt Loftus added a pair of singles. John Isaac had a double for the Dodgers. YANKEES 13 - PIRATES 7 Brad Feleccia pitched three innings of shutout baseball in relief as the Yankees posted a come-from-behind win over the Pirates. With his team trailing 7- 6, Feleccia came in to blank the Pirates on just two hits while strik- ing out five. Steve Federspiel led the Yankees with three hits while Robbie Werner (double/triple), Matt Zinn and Feleccia (double) each added two hits apiece. Dominic Castrigono doubled for the Cardinals who had four hits. H.L. METS 8 - BOB HORLACHER WHITE SOX 0 The H.L. Mets raised their sea- son record to 5-0 behind the 2-hit pitching of D.J. Kapson and Geg Woronko. They combined for 15 strikeouts. Kapson led the hitting attack with a home run, triple, single and 4 RBI's. Woronko chipped in with a double and 2 RBI's Mike Burnside and George Zackerices picked up the White Sox hits.
