The campaign, operated by PennSERVE, the Governor's Of- fice of Citizen Service, and L&I's Bureau of Employment Security and Training, will seek young men and women, generally ages 14 to 25, to participate in community service programs teaching educa- tional, job and life skills. The campaign will include public service announcements on the state Public Television net- work, brochures, posters and . other materials. = The campaign is now recruit- « ing for the Summer Youth Service I+. Corps, which this year will em- «2+ ploy up to 8,000 young people =. working in teams on community a= service projects. The campaign will emphasize “ the role of Corps members as “on “everyday heroes” for doing needed % oh public service projects. Participants will have the op- portunity to serve in one of seven youth programs, or brigades, administered by the state Depart- ment of Labor and Industry; The Pennsylvania Conservation Corps, Summer Youth Service Corps and related summer programs, Penn- sylvania Service Corps, Pennsyl- vania Literacy Corps, Pennsylva- nia Library Corps, school-based service corps, and local conserva- tion and urban corps. Most corps programs pay at least the minimum wage and some pay higher. Preference for many programs is given to disadvan- taged youths. April 'Brass Fest’ is open to area high school musicians Area high school musicians will . get a once-in-a lifetime chance to perform with the masters when the F.M. Kirby Center for the - Performing Arts presents “Brass Fest 94" on April 6 and 7. “Brass Fest” is sponsored by Monumental Brass, a group of artists in residence at the Levine School of Music in Washington, oy D.C. The group has won many In awards and has recorded several albums, as well as regularly ap- pearing on radio and television. The two-day event will include * master classes, workshops, con- certs, open rehearsals and coach- on - ing sessions, on rhythm, time, matching style, tone quality, blend balance, intonation, proper breathing, and good individual practice habits. The training will culminate in a concert performed by Monumen- tal Brass and the student partici- pants Thursday, night April 7. Participation in “Brass Fest” will be free of charge for students. Boys and girls age 5, 6 and 7 may register in person at the YMCA, 40 W. Northampton St., until April 1. T-Ball will have two divisions. Division I will be co-ed 5 year olds; @ Division II will be co-ed 6 and 7 year olds. Registration will be individual “ only; no team registrations will be taken. The season will last six weeks and teams are open to both members and nonmembers. The cost for youth members is $35 and $45 for nonmembers. Uniforms will be provided.
