George Hasay seeks reelection In 1993, Hasay was presented the Guardian of Small Business Award by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, rep- resenting 23,000 small compa- nies in Pennsylvania. Hasay also wants to lower the corporate net income tax. He voted against increasing this tax in 1991 and is actively pursuing decreasing this tax to allow Penn- sylvania to be more competitive with other states. Hasay was involved with ef- forts of both Republicans and Democrats in changing the school subsidy formula thereby enabling rural schools, such as, all the schools in the 117th Legislative District to receive an increase in their funding this fiscal year. Mundy has already begun working closely with area busi- ness leaders, economic develop- ment agencies, and representa- tives of potential new businesses to explore options and opportuni- ties for private sector job develop- ment in the region. This year due to his senority in the House Republican Caucus, Mundy seeks third term In addition to the House Busi- ness and Economic Development Committee, Representative Mundy serves on the House Edu- cation, Professional Licensure, Federal-State Relations, and Majority Policy Committee. She chairs the Housing Subcommit- tee of the House Business and Economic Development Commit- tee. She also serves as Speaker Pro-Tem of the House of Repre- sentaives and is a member of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women. Prior to her 1990 election to the House, Mundy was the business manager of a multi-million dollar manufacturing facility. She has served as a volunteer with the Junior League, the Domestic Vio- lence Service Center and Volun- teers for Literacy, and is a two- term past president of the League of Women Voters of the Wilkes- Barre Area. Hasay has been appointed to the House Republican Caucus to serve as a delegate to the Pennsyl- vania Wild Resource Conserva- tion Fund. In 1993 he served as the Chairman of the Fund. Hasay feels that one of the main areas which mustbe addressed in the next Session is crime: Hasay believes Pennsylvania needs less | appeals, a speedier court system and elimination of some of the appeal processes. DOVE Post Staff According to Lehman Township police, Gilbert Ide, 88, of Idetown Road was accidentally struck by a 1984 Plymouth sedan Monday morning at 8 a.m. Police said that Ide had been: clearing snow from his driveway and mailbox when the car skid- ded and struck him. The driver, a minor whose name police refused to release, had tried to avoid him but was unable to, due to the icy ) condition of the road. & No charges will be filed, police said. Ide was transported by the Lehman Township ambulance and Medic 302 to the Geisinger Wyo- ming Valley Medical Center, then by Life-Flight helicopter to Com- munity Medical Center in Scran- ton, where a hospital spokesper- son said that he is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit. f investigated the accident. BMT Seniors to celebrate St. Patrick's Day March 17 The Back Mountain Senior Citizens’ meeting of March 3, was cancelled due to the weather. The main event to take place during the month of March will be the St. Patrick's Day covered dish with John and Pat Baloga co-chairing the event. The dinner will be served at noon on Thursday, March 17, at St. Therese’s Hall, Shavertown. Desserts will be provided by Florence Precone, Gertude Mis- cavage and Margie O'Hara. All other members will bring a cov- ered dish of one's choice, other than dessert. Plates and cups will be provided by the committee, but members are asked to bring their own silverware. Following the dinner, “Crazy Bingo” will be enjoyed by all who bring a prize amounting to no more than $1.
