DOVE Upgrading road equipment Franklin Township received a $5,000 state grant December 18 from Representative George Hasay to help pay for a used road grader. These grants help small rural municipalities purchase equipment and other necessary items and avoid having to raise taxes to pay for them, Hasay said. Accepting the check are chairman Robert Redmond, Hasay, four year-old Bruce Redmond and supervisors Andrew Prebola and Timothy Dymond. Time to apply for PA, federal financial aid programs The Pennsylvania Higher Edu- cation Assistance Agency (PHEAA) has streamlined its application process for state and federal higher education grants, according to Sen. Charles D. Lemmond (R-20). Lemmond said that students and families now only have to fill out one form. (The Free Applica- tion for Federal Student Aid — FAFSA) to be eligible for both state and federal assistance. Previ- ously, applicants were required to file both a federal and state appli- cation for financial aid. The deadline for all applicants who are seeking to renew grants for the 1994-95 academic year is May 1, 1994, 'Lemmond noted. He said this deadline also applies to first-time applicants who plan to enroll in baccalaureate pro- Back Mountain briefs Kingston Twp. tax bills are mailed Kingston Township residents’ tax bills currently in the mail from Tax Collector Janice Castellani reflect the elimination of the property tax assessed by the Township. The remaining tax on this particular bill is that which is assessed by Luzerne County. The Township does not receive any of that money. The Supervisors eliminated the Real Estate Tax when they adopted the 1994 Township Budget.
