} : ! i ba i 2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, February 16, 1994 Municipal notes KINGSTON TOWNSHIP Snow emergency routes expanded The Kingston Township super- visors announced at their regular February 9 meeting that new snow emergency routes have been des- ignated: Bunker Hill, Carverton, Church (in Carverton and Trucksville), Harris Hill, Lantern Hill, Mount Olivet and Mount Airy roads, Manor Drive and East Franklin and East and West Center streets. Parking is prohib- ited on all snow emergency routes until further notice. Township manager Jeff Box reminded residents that under the winter parking ordinance, park- ing is prohibited on all township streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. until March 31. In other business, the supervi- sors awarded the $58,923 bid for a four-wheel-drive dump truck with a 30,000 lb. gross vehicle weight to Wilkes-Barre White- GMC. The township will also adver- tise for bids for the 1994 spring cleanup and for the Back Moun- tain road materials joint purchas- ing program. LEHMAN TOWNSHIP Fines for sloppy snow plowers The Lehman Township super- visors voted at their February 14 meeting to adopt two ordinances: e A snow and ice ordinance prohibits people from shoveling or plowing snow from their drive- ways onto township roads. Pri- vate plowers must make sure that they don't leave a trail of snow from their operations. Offenders will be fined between $25 and $600, plus court costs. Motorists may not park their cars in a way which will interfere with snow plowing and cindering operations. Offenders will be cited by police, have their cars towed at their expense and pay a fine be- tween $25 and $600, plus court costs. * A sewer ordinance designates the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority to treat and dispose of the township's sewage. This had been done by the Dallas Area Municipal Authority until it tied into the WVSA last year. Lehman Township's sewers tie into DAMA. . In other business, the supervi- sors reviewed the year's expenses of approximately $20,000 for snow removal, or half of the amount budgeted for the year. SKI TIP #18 Sean O'Shea Q. What is the difference between Mogul Skis and Race Skis? A. Mogul Skis are soft at both ends for good shock absorption, while Race Skis are firmer over-all for more aggressive skiing and quicker carved turns. SKI TUNE-UP SPECIAL $12.00 includes P-tex Repair, Edge Filing and Beveling, Stone Grinding, and Hot Wax LAYAWAYS ACCEPTED Saturday 10-5 « Sunday 12-5 . The supervisors said that the road crew will use less salt on the roads because it is too expensive and difficult to obtain. “As the end of the month ap- proaches, the temperatures are getting warmer. Mother Nature can help us out here,” said super- visor David Sutton. “Of course, if conditions are dangerous, we'll do whatever we can to open up the roads.” DALLAS SCHOOL BOARD WORK SESSION District looks into more sports fields The school board discussed development of an eight-acre vacant site behind the high school into one soccer field and two baseball fields for the use of school teams and community sports organizations with representatives of Quad Three, an engineering design firm. Board member John George asked how parking would be handled, since the nearest paved parking lot is alongside the high school, a walk of several minutes" length. It was noted that adding a flat paved parking lot would cost approximately $33,000. Superintendent Gerald Wycal- lis said that Back Mountain Soc- cer was interested in donating money towards the cost; however he wants the solicitor to study the wording of the agreement which they want to make with the dis- trict. Board president Ellen Nagy asked the Quad Three represen- tatives to bring a report of the cost of building a usable softball field to the March meeting. The board rescheduled the March 1 committee-of-the-whole meeting to 7 p.m. March 14 and the April 11 board meeting to April 4. DALLAS SCHOOL BOARD : Last school day is June 22..for now The school board announced that the last day of school is ten- tatively scheduled for June 22 and graduation for June 17, un- less there are more snow days.
