King's to hold first Winter Alumni Day King's College will host its first ever Winter Alumni Day on Saturday, Feb. 12. Events of the day include a basketball doubleheader with King's varsity men's and women's basketball teams hosting Drew University. The Lady Monarchs’ game begins at 2 p.m. and the men's games begins at 4 p.m. in the Scandlon Physical Education Center. Following the games, the Alumni Association at King’s will sponsor an open house reception from 6-10 p.m. in the Sheehy Student Center. The informal reception will include music, dancing, refreshments, and a buffet. Honors and graduates Named to Millersville Dean's List Melissa C. Larkins, RD 2, Dallas, is among the 1,044 students who were named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Millersville University. Larkins received a quality point average (QPA) of 3.5 or above. Named to East Stroudsburg Dean's List Shavertown resident Patrick Kilduff and Sweet Valley resident Sherry Rish have been named to the Deans’ List at East Stroudsburg University for the 1993-94 fall semester. To qualify for the Deans’ List, students must complete at least 12 semester hours during a regular semester at ESU and receive a quality point average of 3.51 or higher for all credit work for that semester. The maximum quality point average a student can earn is 4.0. The letter “B” earns three quality points per credit, and the grade “A” earns four quality points per credit. Helping local governments Helping homeless animals The Dallas Middle School Student Council recently conducted its annual SPCA fund drive to benefit homeless animals. Dog and cat food, towels, cleaning supplies, and money contribu- tions were collected from the faculty and students of the Dallas Middle School, bringing in 26 boxes of food and supplies and $150 for the Luzerne County SPCA. The student council adviser is Miss Norine Amesbury. Student council helpers are: Patty Smith, Kate Weiss, Alycia Roberts, Melissa Sweetz, Kristin Prokopchak, Barbara Lispi and Vanessa Velikis. Host families needed for foreign exchange students American host families are needed for high school students from Western and Eastern Eu- rope, Asia, South America and Australia for the 1994-95 school year, in a program sponsored by the American Intercultural Stu- dent Exchange (AISE). These exceptional students, ages 15 through 18, will arrive in the United States in August, at- tend a local high school, and re- turn to their home countries in June of 1995. The students, all fluent in English, have been carefully screened by the local representa- tives in their home countries, and have their own medical insurance and spending money. Project Children seeks host families Project Children is currently accepting applications from families interested in acting as host families for the summer of 1994. Host families accept children from the war-torn areas of Northern Ireland as guests in their homes for a six week period each summer. The children range in age from nine to 14 years of age. Air and land transportation are arranged and provided by the local division of Project Children. Also provided are insurance and provi- sions for reimbursement for any necessary and unexpected medical expenses.
