DeRose, 76, of Glen- view Avenue, Dallas, died Jan. 24, 1994 at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen Paskiewicz DeRose. He was a graduate of West Pittston High School. He attended Bucknell Junior College and graduated from Wilkes College. He was a former resident of Kingston and lived in the Back Mountain area for the past 21 years. He was an Army Air Corps vet- eran of World War II, serving as a B-24 pilot in England. He was shot down over Germany and became a prisoner of war. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After the war, he joined the Pennsylvania National Guard 109th Field Artillery and served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War. He retired from the military in 1962 with the rank of captain. He was a member of the Dis- abled American Veterans, Veter- ans of Foreign Wars and Ameri- can Ex-POWs. He was an amateur artistand a member of the Wyoming Valley Art League. He was a a member of St. Ther- ese’s Church, Shavertown and its Holy Name Society. He was preceded in death by brother, Charles. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Euginia Shukis; daughters, Gail, at home; Mrs. James (Bonnie) Flynn, Houston; grandsons, Keith and Derek Flynn, both of Houston; two neph- ews. Interment, Mountainview Cemetery, Harding. LESTER LEWIS Lester R. Lewis, 72, of Summit St., Shavertown, died Jan. 29, 1994 at Nesbitt Memorial Hospi- tal, Kingston. Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Ungemach Lewis. He was a gradu- ate of Nanticoke High School; earned a bachelor's degree in music instrumental education from West Chester State Teacher's College; a master’s degree from Ithaca College and did graduate ~ work at the University of Wyo- ming. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was a member of the faculties of Dallas Borough, Kingston Township, and Dallas Township High School as a band director for 34 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shavertown; Nanticoke Lodge 541 F&AM; Caldwell Consistory; Valley of Bloomsburg and Irem Temple, A.A.O0.N.M.S., Wilkes-Barre, where he served as director of the Irem Temple Brass for many years and was presently director emeri- tus. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Educators Association; the Pennsylvania State Association of Retirees and ~~ the American Association of Re- tired Persons. Surviving, are his wife, the for- mer Marie Jones; daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Ruth) Alborn, Dover, Del.; Mrs. Robin (Patricia) Miller, Glen Moore; four grandchildren; sis- ter, Mrs. Harry Lux, Lee Park, Hanover Township; several nieces and nephews.
