Music Box to feature The Sound of Music The Music Box Players willopen their 1994 season with Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, Friday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. This beloved, ever-popular Ameri- can musical classic will have a 4- week run at the Swoyersville Playhouse with additional per- formances on January 29-30, February 3-6, 10to 13, and 17 to 19. Nancy Brown will portray Ma- ria, the novice nun who finds a new life with Austrian Captain, Georg von Trapp, played by Francis C. McMullen, and his seven children. The musical fol- lows the true story of this coura- geous “singing” family, and their escape from the Nazis just before the start of World War II. Mary Dower will portray the Mother Abbess, who gives Maria and her family inspiration and hope when she sings one of the show's most well-known songs: “Climb Ev'ry Mountain”. Liesl, the oldest of the seven von Trapp children will be played by Jill Unice; John" Kennedy will play her boyfriend, Rolf Gruber; Jody Barbarulo plays the Count- ess, Elsa Scharaeder, and family friend Max Detweiler is played by Joseph Gilbert. The von Trapp children will be played by Chuck Unice, Kathleen Flannery, Grant Mech, Abigail Myers, Mary Pauline Moran and Kathleen Moran. Other principals include How- ard Smith, Jennifer Starr, Kevin D. Costley, Cynthia Millington, Linda Orseck, and Debbie Zehner. Playing nuns, Nazis and party guests are Bernie Ott, Katherine Shaw, Evelyn Tomasovic, Faye Fuller, Marge Dewees, Terry Citti and Mary Ross. The production is directed by E.T. Goman and Debbie Zehner: musical direction is by Cindy Thomas; choreography is by Kevin Costley; sets and lighting are by Michael Gallagher; costumes are by K.D. Love assisted by Inez Williams.
