hd \ + a 1 ‘The Dallas Post The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, January 12, 1994 9 rebuild ‘in 1994 | By DAVE KONOPKI Sports Writer Kim Barbacci knows all about the recent history ofthe Dallas High School girls’ basketball team. She knows she’s the third head coach of the team in three years. And she knows all too well the challenge facing her. But Barbacci also knows that more than just the name on the coach's office door needs to be changed if the Lady Mountain- eers are going to get their program headed in the right direction. “We need to instill a winning attitude on this team,” said Bar- bacci, who coached on the fresh- men level at Dallas and Lake- Lehman before landing her first varsity head coaching job. “They have to learn how to become a team; how to play together. We also need to gain confidence in ourselves. It's going to take a total team effort if we're going to be successful.” Senior guard Kelly Janosky, a three-sport standout at Dallas, heads the list of five returning letter winners from last year's squad and is the lone senior on the Dallas roster. But a quartet of sophomores, all of whom earned letters last year as freshmen, and a trio of talented current freshmen have the Dallas future looking bright. Sophomore twins Robin (cen- ter) and Stacey (forward) Suda return from last season along with fellow sophomores Carrie Fetter- man (guard) and Holly Baseski (guard). Freshmen forwards Carrie Achuff and Sarah Barlow, along with guard Adrienne Camp, are all battling for playing time this season. In fact, Achufff joins Sports\Week Philly Subs holds BigD POST PHOTO/RON BARTIZEK Kelly Janosky guarded a Bishop Hafey player in the Lady Mountaineers’ game against the Hazleton school last week. Janosky scored 12 points as Dallas rolled over Hafey 50-26 for their first win of the new season. Janosky, Fetterman, Suda and Baseski in the current starting lineup. Junior guard Therese Paxton, who played last year, is also see- ing plenty of playing time. Prom- ising sophomore Sarah Misson, who chipped a bone in her ankle during the pre-season, is expected to return to the team in three weeks. Last year’s team was adversely affected by internal problems, including a group of parents upset with their children’s playing time. Barbacci doesn't want the same thing to happen this season, so right from the beginning, she let the players know where she stood where playing time is concerned. “The best five players will play, regardless of what grade they are in,” explained Barbacci, who is “assisted by Jeanne Kasarda. “We need to play as a team and the ‘best five at that time can change week to week, or even day to day. Everyone is going to have to work hard, and work together, if we're going to win.” While Barbacci remains opti- mistic about the success of the Dallas program, she also realizes the change won't take place over- night. “It's going to take at least one full season and one full summer program together before we get to that level,” answered Barbacci, when asked how long it would take for the Lady Mounts to be- come divisional contenders. “I think a successful season this year would be for us to finish above .500 (winning percentage). We know the challenge facing us. We're looking forward to it.” Center. Anderson, former coaches, players feted College Misericordia recently honored Dr. Robert S.
