The Wyoming Seminary students L-L food drive The class officers of the Lake- Lehman Middle Level Education Building sponsored a holiday food drive to benefit needy families in the area. Financial Aid Night at Dallas Jan. 5 ~The Dallas Senior High School Guidance Department is sponsoring a program concerning financial aid for all students planning to continue their education beyond high school, and their parents. Four area Sem students recognized Four Back Mountain students from Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, Kingston, have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement in college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations. Only about 11 percent of the 424,000 students who took AP Examinations in May 1993 performed at a sufficiently high level to merit such recognition. + The College Board recognizes three levels of achievement-the AP Scholar with Distinction, the AP Scholar with Honor and the AP Scholar. * Named AP Scholars with HonorAward for earning grades of 3 or above on four or more AP Examinations with an average exam grade of at least 3.24 were David Choi '93, Dallas; Vinod Dasa '94, Shavertown. ¢ Qualifying for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher were Melanie Evans '93, Recently students in the Dallas Middle School raised money for the American Heart Association with a Jump Rope fund raiser. The students found sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money for the length of time they jumped rope. Mrs. Anne Seitz, event coordinator, said that the event raised more than $322. Nance Schmidle was the highest money raiser with $76, while Brittany Bartolini, second highest, raised $50. Tobi Grossman honored for continuing ed conference Tobi Grossman of Dallas, a member of the continuing educa- tion staff at Penn State Wilkes- Barre Campus, has won the Award of Excellence from Region II of the National University Continuing Education Association in recog- nition of “exemplary achievement”. The award was presented for her work in organizing a 1992 conference on “Learning Disabili- ties Through the Life Span”. The learning disabilities con- ference enabled 200 persons to learn more about individuals with learning disabilities; the first time such a comprehensive conference on this subject had been pre- sented in Northeastern Pennsyl- vania. Although many community organizations co-sponsored the conference with Penn State, Mrs. Grossman provided the original idea and the coordination. A Penn State staff member for almost a decade, she and her husband, Howard Grossman, are active in community life in this area. LCCC to hold spring classes at Dallas Luzerne County Community College will offer courses for the spring, 1994, semester at its Dallas off-campus extension site. Registration for courses in Dallas will be at the Dallas Area High School, January 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Among the courses scheduled to be offered in Dallas are classes in accounting, business law, English, literature, sociology, psychology, marketing, history, fitness and wellness, microcomputers, typing, philosophy, education and others.
