Works by 6 area artists on display through December The close-up, the quiet and the intimate are the subjects of art- works in the current exhibition at Mellon Bank, Main Street, in Dallas. “Small Worlds" showcases the work of six local artists. Sue Hand, Dallas, created a watercolor painting which depicts the world around the base of a tree trunk. “Tree of Life,” sym- bolic of her strong beloved roots in the Back Mountain area although the tree is from her beloved coast of Maine. Charlotte Arbogast, Dallas, created a small world of an an- tique doll's tea set, a handmade quilt, and her grandmother's Bible. The quilt in the painting will be exhibited with the Penn- sylvania Quilters. She is also exhibiting a triptych watercolor of wildflower closeups and several other small florals. Another work depicts a young boy intent on play. Through the eyes of Diane Chollak, Harveys Lake, the viewer is treated to a quiet reverie under tall hemlock trees, as branches and needles filter the bright sunlight. Painted en plein air at Rickett’s Glen, the subject shows a universal mem- ory. A second work depicts a doorway, representative of asmall world opening into a larger one. A closup of red tulips by Chollak is also on display. Sharon Cease, Hunlock Creek, exhibits her delight in her grand- children with her still life painting of a teddy bear and a beautiful heirloom quilt. Cease is also a well-known basket weaver and craftswoman and her craftsman- ship is evident in the painted quilt. Eileen Schmidt, Mountaintop, chose to depict the light and shadows of her flower pot and watering can, recalling the sun- shine and shade so necessary for plant growth. Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Montrose, a professional weaver, photogra- pher and painter, weaves together tiny brush strokes to create mag- nificent vistas seen from within a small room space in her two miniature paintings. “All six of the artists exhibit their work regularly and are members of several local art groups including Cider Painters of America, Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society, Wyoming Valley Art League and Hill Country Artists. Collectively they represent and work in all major drawing and painting media. The exhibit may be viewed through the end of December in the lobby of the Mellon Bank, Main Street, Dallas, during regu- lar business hours. entries received in this commu- nity-wide contest.
