14 The Dallas Post Obituaries SUSAN DODD Susan W. Dodd, 88, formerly of Idetown, died Dec. 2, 1998 at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late James and Bessie Shultz Williams. A resident of Idetown for many years, she attended Lehman schools, and was a graduate of Kingston High School. She was a member of the Alderson United Methodist Church. She was also an honorary member of the Harveys Lake Women's Club and General Federation of Women's Clubs; was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Daniel C. Roberts Fire Co., Idetown; the Nesbitt Hospital Auxiliary, Kingston branch and the American Association of Retired Persons. She was a member of the National Association of Re- tired Teachers; the Pennsylvania Retired Public School Employees Associaton and the Luzerne County School Secretaries Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russel Dodd. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Thomas G. Baer, Harveys Lake and three grandchildren. Interment, Wardan Cemetery, Dallas. JOHN FILAR John R. Filar, 72, formerly of Dallas, died Dec. 4, 1993 at Tucson, Ariz. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Louis L. and Stasia Drapiewski, Filar. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and the University of Scranton, class of 1943. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater and the Army of Occupation. After returning to the Wyoming Valley, he joined the faculty of King's College, and began a long association as a biochemist with Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. In 1950, he enrolled in Notre Dame University, whee he received his master’s degree in biochemistry. At his retirement in 1986, he was a faculty member of College Misericordia. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Connell. Surviving are sons, Robert, Tucson, Ariz.; Jay, Las Vegas, Nev.; Christopher, Denver; brother, Leo, Mars. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Nanticoke. WALTER GALKA Walter F. Galka, 84, of Noxen, died Dec. 4, 1993, at home after a lengthy illness. Born in Larksville, he was the son of the late Thomas and Frances Sja Galka. He resided in Noxen for most of his life. He was employed as an electrician for 40 years by the Okonite Cable Co. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Noxen. He was also a member of Dallas Masonic Lodge 531, F&AM. He served as auditor for Noxen Townsip. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary; daughter, Eleanor Womer.
