Zoning (continued from page 1) pared materials, of finished prod- ucts or parts, including process- ing, fabrication, assembly, treat- ment, packaging, incidental stor- age, sales and distribution of such products,” according to Aritz. Under cross-examination by Aritz, Sopp said that he sells Birch Craft custom kitchens and also makes custom cabinets for cus- tomers from plywood and formica. “Doyou cut and assemble them from raw materials, finish and deliver them?” Aritz asked. “I consider raw materials to be timber,” Sopp said. “For me to get raw materials, I'd have to bring in whole trees.” When Aritz asked him if he had his own steel mill to make the metal fittings and hinges for the cabinets, Sopp had no comment. Hagen said that Creative Rooms was operating legally because another manufacturing firm, Dentiform, which made materials for the dental industry, had oper- ated at the same location for sev- eral years prior to Sopp’s having rented the space. “Don’t you assemble food from raw materials in your restaurant?” he asked Drury. Board solicitor Susan Maza said that the board will render a deci- sion within 45 days, as allowed by law. This isn’t the first time that Drury and Sopp have been at loggerheads. In the spring, Drury had ob- jected to Sopp’s having brought in a mobile home to use as a storage trailer behind his business. Although mobile homes aren't allowed in the borough outside of designated mobile home parks, storage trailers are permitted, according to the zoning code. Sopp then applied for a zoning * variance for the trailer May 16, 1993, more than a year after he had it brought in, and received conditional approval June 29 to use it for two years.
