Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Paul T. and Mary Novick Gates. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Daddow Isaacs Post 672, Dallas and the Disabled American Veterans. He was for- merly employed by Sordoni En- terprises, and prior to retiring in 1990, he owned and operated Tallman Printing Co., Forty Fort. He was a member of the Forty Fort Businessman'’s Association and Knights of Columbus As- sumpta Council 3987, Luzerne. He was a former member of St. Nicholas and Gate of Heaven Choirs. An avid sportsman, he was a charter member of the Root Hollow Lodge and the National Rifleman’s Association. He also did volunteer work at St. Vincent DePaul Kitchen, Wilkes-Barre. Chollak, Sr., 79, of East Center Hill Road, died Aug. 21, 1993, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Kopack Chollack. He was a 1931 gradaute of Edwardsville High School, a 1935 graduate of St. Thomas College (now the Uni- versity of Scranton) and in 1939 from the University of Georgetown Medical School. Prior to his retirement in 1978, he served his internship and practiced as a staff and emer- gency room physician at Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. He helda private practice for 35 years in Edwardsville and also for a brief time in Plymouth. He was an examining physi- cian for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and Kingston Coal Co. He was also affiliated with the Kirby Health Center. He was a Army Air Corps vet- eran of World War II, serving in England as a flight surgeon. He was an avid fly fisherman and hunter, he was a member of the Mountain Springs Land Owners Association. He was also a memer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Daddow Isaacs Post 672, a charter member of the Family Practice Association, the Luzerne County Medical Society; the Pennsylvania Medical Soci- ety; the American Medical Asso- ciation. He was also a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. He and his wife, the former Claire Dettmore, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 28, 1993.
