Earns scholastic honors The Lake Silkworth Area Lions met recently at a dinner meeting held at the Red Rooster, Restaurant, Pikes Creek to honor Jeffrey Gold, a Lake-Lehman High School student, who was presented a certificate for Valedictorian and also the Chester Szalkowski Memo- rial Chemistry Award for earning highest Chemistry student of the year. Jeffrey is a National Honor Society member, appeared three times in Who's Who Among American High School Students, placed third in Scranton Region Stock Market Game and earned 29 credits in Wilkes Young Scholars Program. Gold plans to study Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On duty with Operation Southern Watch Navy Lt. Cmdr. David M. Haines, a 1972 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School, Lehman, recently passed the midway point in a six-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, homeported in Norfolk, Va. as a lead ship in its battle group. After more than 100 days at sea, the ship transited the Suez Canal from the Mediterannean Sea to the Red Sea where Haines is now participating in Operation Southern Watch, enforcing the United. Nations-imposed “no-fly” zone over Southern Iraq. He joined the Navy in June, 1976. Haines is a 1976 graduate of the U.S. Naval Acacemy, Annapolis, Md. with a BS degree. Religious services ST.
