Individuals with mental retardation are given con- tinuing opportunities to develop physical fitness skills, self-esteem and social graces. Luzerne County Special Olympics was organized in 1969 by Angelo Marcino (De- ceased), Ron Moran and Jerry Fonzo. Friends of Library to honor The Friends of the Back Moun- tain Memorial Library announces + their Fifth Annual Luncheon With A Special Author, to be held on Thursday, April 29. Linda Stal- lone, Dallas author, will speak about her book, On Your Own: Adult Independence for Ages 18- 100. The luncheon will be held at The Apple Tree Terrace (formerly The Barn), Newberry Estates, Dallas, and is open to the public. The social hour is at 11:30, the luncheon will start at 12 noon. Proceeds will benefit the library. Mrs. Stallone, a writer, former teacher and college and business -Dallas author Linda Stallone administrator, co-authored the book with her husband, Dr.James Stallone, a local psychologist in private practice, former univer- sity professor and counselor. Linda Stallone is also the author of The Flood That Came to Grandma's House, illustrated by Dallas artist Joan Schooley. Dr. and Mrs. Stallone are the parents of two grown children and a tod- dler. Nancy Rowlands, Dallas Club, served as co-chair- man of Baked Goods and several other club members worked shifts throughout the day. The proceeds for '93 Federa- tion Day, sponsored by Luzerne County Federation of Womens’ Clubs and Boscov's will benefit Child Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The total amount raised for the day will stay in Luzerne County to purchase educational materials for the various centers in the county. The centers provide work- ing parents with a safe, pleasant environment for their children. Federation Day is an annual event and each year different organizaitons are interviewed until one is chosen to receive the pro- ceeds. Girl Scouts to host spring gift and flower show April 3 Flowers and More '93, the Penn's Woods Girl Scout Coun- cil's way to welcome spring, will be held on April 3 and 4 at Gen- etti's Wilkes-Barre from noon to 5 p.m. More than 20 vendors will be on hand, showcasing items for Spring gift giving. The scene will be set with a beautiful garden designed by Bill Sheehee from Dundee Gardens. The show is a project of the Penn's Woods Council Board of Directors to benefit the Girl Scout program. Frances Paciga, Wilkes-Barre is the chair for the event. This is the 30th Anniversary of the Council which has served more than 180,000 girls and women in six counties during that time.
