JCC to host Holocaust survivor March 29 The Jewish Community Center of Wyoming Valley is pleased to announce avisit by Solomon Perel, the hero behind the award win- ning movie “Europa, Europa”. The movie is the fascinating story of Solomon Perel, a German Jewish teenager who survived the horrors of World War II under the disguise of a pure Aryan Nazi. Fleeing the town of Lodz, Poland and driven by his wits and cour- age, Solomon managed to escape the bitter end of his family through a series of adventures in Poland, Russia and Germany. Among oth- ers, he spent two years of his life in a Soviet orphanage where he be- came an ardent Communist preaching for reforms. He was later captured by the Nazis who mis- cht”, the Nazi military. The peak of his drama happens in the prestig- ious Hitler Youth Academy where Perel was sent for two years of training. This is a movie master- piece about the tragedy of the Holocaust through the true story of one young man who must hide his identity in order to survive. This is a once in a lifetime op- portunity to hear this story of this brave young man, now 66 years old and living in Israel. For 40 years, Solomon Perel says, he was unable to speak about his extraor- dinary gambit to survive the Sec- ond World War, how he disguised his Jewish identity, passed him- self off as an ethnic German and joined the paramilitary ranks of the Hitler Youth. He wouldn't even discuss it with his sons while liv- Dr. J.
