Sweet Valley Christian Academy honors athletes On January 24, the Sweet Val- ley Christian Academy held their first “Street Hockey” awards cere- mony to honor the 30 athletes that participated in the 1992 season. Four teams took part in play during the season which ran from October to December. Certificates and trophies were presented by Principal Mrs. Glo- ria Davis and Supervisor Bill Norwig. The winners and catego- ries follow: Hart Trophy-MVP on the cha- mionship team during regular season, Kyle Purdy; Campbell Trophy-MVP on the playoff cham- pionship team, Ron Thomas Jr.; Calder Cup Trophy-Most Domi- nant Player in the League, Shane Purdy; Com-Smythe Trophy, Outstanding Defensive Player, Amy Wildoner; Lady Bing Trophy- Best Overall Continuous Effort, Rebecca Ide; Barnabus Trophy- Encourager to other Players, Aileen Williams. Exchange program seeks host families Share our American heritage and cultural traditions with an international high school student. American Intercultural Student Exchange is seeking families who are interested in hosting a foreign exchange student in their homes for the 1993-94 school year. The students, ages 15 through 18, have their own spending money and medical insurance. Host families provide room, board, and a loving family environment. Families may request a student from over 30 countries in Europe, for students Asia, South America and Australia. All exchange students are in excellent health, are fluent in English, and have met strict academic standards set forth by AISE. YMCA begins program for junior high students The Greater Wilkes-Barre Fam- ily YMCA, a United Way Agency, is offering to Jr. High School stu- dents grades 6th, 7th and 8th an alternative for Saturday nights. This year the YMCA will be open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month starting on Jan. 23. Hours for the program will be 6:30- 9:30 p.m. Activities will include basketball, volleyball, wallyball, racquetball, weight lifting and and swimming. “Teen Night” is designed to give area 6th, 7th and 8th grade stu- dents somewhere and someplace to go on Saturday nights.
