The dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. at the Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, Wilkes-Barre. a Dinner chairman, Dr. Wallace F. Stettler, announced that the » featured speaker will be Tom Landry, legendary former coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Landry led his team to five NFL champion- . ships. Under his leadership, his team won Superbowls Vi and XII. Recipient of the council's Dis- tinguished Citizen Award will be Tom Jacobs, Managing Director of Boscov's Department Store. Robinson has an- nounced her candidacy for re- election to the office of District Justice. Robinson is presently in her 11th year on the bench serving residents of Eaton, Exeter, Falls, Monroe, Northmoreland and Noxen Townships and Tunkhan- nock Borough. She plans to cross-file seeking both the Democrat and Republi- can nominations in the May pri- mary election. Robinson is a member of the Special Court Judges Association of Pennsylvania and has served on the legislation, education and budget committees since 1982; also completed courses of civil and criminal laws; rules of evi- dence, motor vehicle code, fish, dog and game laws, municipal ordinances, office procedure and management techniques, at the ( Minor Judiciary School at Wilson College in Chambersburg. Jacobs is former president of the Boy Scout Council and active in numerous charitable and civic organizations. He is instrumental in revitalizing down town Wilkes- Barre through innovative pro- grams such as Women's Federa- tion Day, The Great White Way, and numerous downtown parades and festivals. Scouting officials hope to raise more than $80,000 from the din- ner which is the council's largest annual fund raising event. The proceeds are used as part of the council's annual operating budget to provide services and programs to more than 10,000 youth and adult leaders in Luzerne, Wyo- ming, Lackawanna and Wayne counties. More than 250 local Scouting units meet throughout Evans-Kavaldjian. The proud parents are Haig and Jill Evans-Kavaldjian of Strasburg, VA, and the happy theyearin local churches, schools, and civic organizations. The council operates two camp- ing facilities which are used dur- ing the summer and on most week- ends throughout the year. Camp Acahela is located in Monrce County and is the primary week- end camp as well as the Cub Scout Resident Camp. Goose Pond Scout reservation is located in Wayne County near Lake Wal- lenpaupack and is used as the Boy Scout resident camp as well as weekend troop camping and camporees. Tickets for the dinner are $125 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the Boy Scout service center at 655-5135 or by contacting any of the committee members. Back Mountain briefs Lake Silkworth Fire Co.'s breakfast Feb. 21 Sunday breakfast will be served February 21 at the Lake Silkworth Fire Hall located on Route 29. Members of the fire company will start serving at 8 a.m. and continue until 12 noon. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs (any style), bacon, sausage, creamed beefon toast, southern gravy on toast, fruits, juices, and fresh baked pastries. That's all you can eat for $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. Lake Twp. Recycling accepting new items Lake Township recycling center, open the second Saturday of each month, will now accept all #1 and #2 plastic bottles. Definition of a bottle: Narrower at the top than at the bottom. Examples, detergent, juice, soda, milk, water, salad dressing. But no motor oil containers can be accepted. These new items will be accepted along with aluminum, bi-metal cans, clear, borwn and green glass. Tax help available at K.T. building March 11 The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue will be at the Kingston Township Municipal Building on Thursday, March 11, 1998, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to assist residents in preparing their 1992 Pennsylvania Tax Returns. Claim cemetery decorations from Mt. Olivet All families wishing to claim any winter decorations are requested to pick up all items prior to March 1. All remaining items will be discarded by the cemetery, including Christmas decoration, plastic and silk flowers, all containers and vigil lights. Vigil lights are only allowed during All Souls, All Saints days for a 10 day period. Boy Scout holiday food drive Scott Banta, of Boy Scout Troop 155 of Trucksville recently coordinated a food and holiday gift drive benefitting local families in need. Scott provided this service to others as a requirement in obtaining the Boy Scout Woodbadge. Marriage enrichment program a success Twelve couples from the Huntsville Christian Church re- cently completed a marriage en- richment series called Marriage for Lovers Only featuring noted family counselor H. Norman Wright. The four week series consisted of four video tape pres- entations followed by discussion groups. The topics covered in- cluded: how to build a solid foun- dation, how to add sizzle to one's marriage, how to really love your spouse and how to resolve con- flicts.
