An organization dedicated to the dmiscussion of campus concerns, Peer Group addresses social and academic issues in its monthly meetings. Student representatives work closely with the school's administration and student government to improve programs .and policy. To attend state conference Lisa Heck, Back Mountain student from West Side Area Vocational Technical School won first place at the Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) Competition held at the Lehigh Valley Mall. Lisa took two written tests and took part in a role play. She will compete in the DECA State Leadership Conference to be held in Hershey, March 7, 8 and 9. Shurmaitis wins Lake- Noxen Geography Bee Joseph Shurmaitis, a fourth grade student at Lake-Noxen Elementary School, Harveys Lake, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 15 and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round sored by the National Geographic WORLD, the Society's magazine for children and Amtrak. Joseph is the son of Linda Shurmaitis of Harveys Lake. He will now take a written test; up to 100 of the top scorers in each state will be eligible to compete in their state Bee on April 2.
