DOVE Post Staff Fifth-graders in Mrs. Nulton's class at Dallas Elementary School perfected their newly-learned let- ter-writing techniques recently by writing to Santa Claus. They didn’t send him their own Christmas lists. Fifth-graders are big kids, who long ago learned the “truth” about Santa. They wrote personalized Christ- mas letters for Mrs. Roeder’s first- graders. “Remember to put the date and inside address in their proper places,” Mrs. Roeder admonished. “And be sure that Santa knows what snack treats he'll find - something more original than milk and cookies, please.” “I remember being a little kid in first grade and having a fifth-grader write a Santa letter for me,” smiled Jennifer Dombroski, writing for John Bevilaque. “I think it keeps some of the magic in Christmas.” “You have to be really careful, because the little kids still believe in Santa Claus,” confided Mark Kelly. “You don’t want to disap- point them.” “It’s still fun. It brings back a lot of good memories,” said Chad Woolbert, penning a chatty letter from first-grader Nicole Sands. And if the first-graders have anything to say about it, Santa may cut a trimmer figure this year. They plan to leave him delectable munchies such as low-cholestorol yogurt, whole-wheat treats and fresh fruit. And apples and carrots for the reindeer, of course.
