The Hearthstone Pub building has been an ongoing headache for Dallas Borough officials since 1988, when they first directed for- mer borough solicitorJohn S. Fine to file the necessary papers to have the eyesore demolished because it had become a fire hazard and a public nuisance. Further legal action was delayed until August, 1990, because offi- cials were unable to determine who owned the building. Although county records listed the owners as T.L.C. Enterprises, no one seemed to know who or what this entitv was. Brdaric Excavating of Luzerne was awarded the demolition bid at the Dallas Borough council's Sep- tember 15 meeting, in anticipation of receiving the funding. John Brdaric said that he ex- pects demolition to begin October 19. The company must file a notice of demolition with the Department of Environmental Resources 10 days before it expects to begin work. Prior to demolition, any hazard- ous materials must be removed from the building. Brdaric has contracted with Wyoming S&T of Wilkes-Barre to remove asbestos from the boiler and heating pipes in the cellar, beginning October 14. “We'll have to work very care- fully because several buildings adjoin the pub,” Brdaric said. “And its top two floors aren't in too good shape.
