» The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, August 19, 1992 COMMUNITY Paintings by Laura Slocum are on display at Mellon Bank ‘Paintings by local artist Laura slocum are currently on exhibit at he Dallas branch of Mellon Bank formerly United Penn Bank), Main street, Dallas through the end of August. ‘Slocum, who works in both fine art and decorative art styles is snown for her realistic presenta- [ions of florals and genre art. ‘She is an accomplished artist in several mediums including water- color, oil, colored pencil, graphite and acrylic. {The highlights of the exhibit include watercolor portraits of her two young sons in everyday situ- ations at home, a tableaux-style Back Mountain Seniors urged, oil painting on stacked glass of a window with awning and flower box and a special watercolor of tiger lilies. Slocum, a former realtor, is of- ten seen in local arts and craft shows with her decorative art. As a fine artist she has exhibited at Sue Hand's Imagery where she studies drawing and painting and has won many prizes at the Luzerne County Fall Fair. She resides in Shavertown with her husband, Bartt and two sons. The public is invited to view the exhibit during the month of Au- gust at Mellon Bank during regu- lar banking hours. to attend water rate hearing “The Back Mountain Senior Citi- zens held a meeting on August 10. Else Maugham, vice president, conducted the recent business meeting. ~On Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Dallas Middle School, a meet- ing is scheduled to discuss the proposed water rate increase. Members were advised to attend. “Sunshine committee chairlady Sophie Kapral sent get well cards to Mary Wahlgren, Pat Baloga and Robert Rogers. Recent hi-bowlers were John Bosak, 211 and Sophie Kapral, 161. Bowlers will meet at the Back Mountain Bowl, Dallas, at 9:30 a.m. every Monday. Pag Higgins, AAA, will be the guest speaker at the next social meeting on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m. at St. Therese's Audito- rium, Shavertown. Bakers for this meeting will be Else Maugham, Marge Molley and Marge O'Hara. Area dancers named best at Funfest At the recent Funfest Performing Arts Festival held in Hazleton, the group Locomotion captured the title of Super Weekend Group along with first place in group tap and second place in group jazz. This group also attended Talent Olympics in the Poconos and MRS. THOMAS EDWARD FINAN Ann Elizabeth Gunster weds Thomas E. Finan Ann Elizabeth Gunster, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald D. Gunster of Dallas and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cooper, Dallas, was married Saturday, Aug. 15, to Thomas Edward Finan, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Finan of Brentwood, New York. Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Mercy Center, Dallas was the setting for the Nuptial Mass celebrated by Reverend John Michael Halloran of Philadelphia and Reverend Gerard Safko of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. Donald Gunster, brother of the bride served as Eucharistic Minister. Readers were Christopher Gunster and David Munson. The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, Matron of Honor was Jennifer Jennings and Best Man was Robert Finan, brother of the groom. Bridesmaids were Stacie Lowery, of Westfield, N.J.; Gail Thoms of Glendale, Ariz.; Catherine Embree of Livingston, N.J.; Susanne Lehman of Forty Fort and Meaghen Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio. Flower girl was Jessica Schram of Mendham, N.J. Groomsmen were James Finan of Phoenix, Ariz., brother of the groom, Hank Bukowski, Jr. of Brentwood, N.Y.; Scott Frantz of Ashburn, Va.; David Munson of Mahwah, N.J. and Gerald Gunster II of Fairfax, Va. William J. Finan, nephew of hte groom was junior groomsman. An evening dinner reception was held at the Westmoreland Club immediately following the ceremony. Mrs. Finan is a graduate of Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School and Drew University. She is presently a graduate student at George'Mason University earning a Masters degree in Special Education. She is associated with Springfield Academy, Spring- field, Va. ; Mr. Finan is a graduate of Brentwood Sonderling High School and Boston College. He has earned a masters degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. He is leasing director for J.B.G.
