The theme of this year’s ball, i, “The Candyman Can" celebrated ' the current potentate, Fred J. « Dietrich, Sr., and his Lady, Betty. ! Early afternoon found party- + goers enjoying the welcoming \, hospitality of the potentate on the «Sun Porch. During the cocktail hour, the Irem String Band enter- ;~tained the formal gathering prior ' to dinner in the main ballroom. i The Grand Entrance, highlight , of the annual Potentate's Ball, ' began at 9 p.m. in the great pavil- , ion at the country club. The color- \ fully-decorated bandstand and + guest tables of the pavilion re- , flected the theme of the ball, “The | Candyman Can.” Commander of i Irem Temple's Legion of Honor, , Noble John R. Norcross, Jr., led in » Ld + : t b LJ i] Potentate's ba A gathering of nobles the pledge of allegiance followed by the singing of the national anthem led by Noble Robert F. Schwall, a member of the Irem Chanters. As honored guests entered the pavilion, they passed down the honor aisle formed by young women and men who are members of Rainbow Girls and Demolay as well as members of the Irem Temple Clowns. Illustrious Sir Frederick Diet- rich Sr. and his Lady Betty, were announced and presented to the gathering escorted by his Chief Aid Hugh E. Williams Jr. They were followed by their son, Noble Fred J. Dietrich, Jr., his wife, Lynn, and grandchildren, Rebecca and Stephen, escorted by Noble David E. Samuel. Granddaughter Heather Dietrich, attended with her escort Lee Tumavitch, escorted by Noble Robert W. Vietz, Sr. Members of the Irem Temple Divan were then presented. Each member of the Divan and his Lady was escorted by their personal aides. Eleven past potentates of I held at the Irem Temple Irem and their ladies were then introduced in the grand entrance as was District Deputy Grand Master, District 13, Benjamin H. Lee and his Lady, Betty. Anumber ; of visiting potentates and their ladies from throughout the Mid- Atlantic area helped mark the occasion for Potentate Dietrich. Culmination of the procession was the introduction of the Past Imperial Potentate of the Shrine of North America, and past potentate of Lu Lu Temple, Plymouth Meet- ing, Imperial Sirdohn Wesley Dean, III, and his Lady, Kay.
