BE ~~ 4 Dr. Paul Zbiek named to in the East’ expansion in Northeastern Penn- sylvania, was entitled “Ethnicity, Assimilation, and Community Development in a Rural Society: Eastern Sullivan County, Penn- sylvania; 1815-1870." In 1988, Dr. Zbiek was the recipient of the Keystone Junior College Faculty Development Summer Stipend for scholarly research on the social history of Pennsylvania's Endless Mountain region. Dr. Zbiek is also the recipient the Keystone Junior College Fac- ulty Development Award and the Kent State University Graduate Senate Research Award. Williames, Assistant Provost of the University of Scran- ton, has been named to the posi- tion of Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of St. Tho- mas in Houston, Texas. St. Tho- mas is Houston's Catholic univer- sity and offers degrees on the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level to some 2,100 students drawn from across the country and 46 nations. Dr. Williames will be leaving the University of Scranton following six years of association with the University. He spent one year as an American Council on Educa- tion Fellow interning with the Presi- dent and the Provost and five years as the University’s first Assistant provost. Prior to that Lee Willia- mes served for 20 years as a Pro- fessor at College Misericordia. The Williames family has been broadly involved in community service with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Y, and the Red Cross over their 27 years in the Back Mountain area.
