Guide to the Back Mountain Wednesday, May 20, 1992 19 = Events (continued from page 18) The Back Mountain's hills are even tougher for the 10 kilometer, or 6 mile, running course because running downhill is nearly as tough as going uphill on a runner's legs. More than just providing a tough course though, the Back Mountain makes triathletes feel at home with 700 to 800 volunteers turning out to set up the course, hand-off cups of water along the course, and sometimes even give the athletes a place to bed down for the night. This year, the triathlon will be centered at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman Township. In thfpast the triathlon has been based at College Misericordia in Dallas, but has been moved because of construction at the campus. To volunteer, call co-race director Joanne Gensel at 826-5569.
