SCHOOL
Dallas scholars to visit Nantucket
The American Literature Field Studies Association of Dallas High
School will conclude its academic year of studies with a field trip
to historic sites of New England, including historic sites of the
island of Nantucket, Mass.
Included in the itinerary in Massachusetts will be a whale watch
excursion off of Provincetown, oceanographic research at Wood's
Hole, tour of Plimouth Plantation and historic sites of the Ply-
mouth area, and Battleship Cove in Fall River; in Connecticut, the
{ ¢}S Nautilus and Mystic Aquarium.
Freld studies in New England were instituted in 1986 by Eleanor
Buda, American Literature teacher.
Accompanying the students on the four-day trip, in addition to
Mrs. Buda, will be school nurse Rita Bren and teachers Charles
M. Preece and Carrie M. Walters.

wallas band members play in state festival
Members of the Dallas Senior High School Band were part of the
District 9 State Band Festival hosted by the Western Wayne High
School and Band.
The guest conductor was Patrick M. Jones, Director of Bands at
Prince George's Community College in Largo, Md., and Com-
mander Conductor of the 553rd Air Force Band of the Pennsylva-
nia Air National Guard.
Students participating were: Amy Beardsworth, flute; Eric Clothier,
clarinet; and Becky Roan, bass clarinet.

Wilkes Upward Bound Program
Wilkes University's Upward
Bound program recently accepted
more than 60 new students for the
spring term. The students are from
14 high schools in Luzerne and
Wyoming counties.
Funded by the U.S. Department
of Education, Upward Bound Pro-
gram at Wilkes University began in
1967 and helps high school stu-
dents grow academically, socially
and personally while preparing for
college.
