Sutton currently resides in Lehman with his wife, the former Florence Davenport. Lanceford Sutton, Lehman, will celebrate his 80th birthday on February 6, 1992. Sutton is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Sutton and was married to the late Beulah Good- win. He has two sons, Richard and . Kenneth, both of Lehman, 4 grand- ~ ‘children, and one great grandchild. Sutton is a Charter Member of Open House will be celebrated February 9 at the Victory Baptist Church, Lehman 2 to 4 p.m. Dallas Basketball director speaks to Kiwanis Paul Jobson of the Dallas Basketball Program, a speaker at a recent Dallas Kiwanis Club meeting. Paul stated that there are 153 children in the program. The pro- gram practices a mixed format (boys and girls on the same teams) and children in grades 3 to 7 are all welcome to participate. Paul is very proud of the fact that in this program every child plays. One of the main objectives of the program is teaching the children funda- mentals of basketball. Nesbitt's Shaveriown Auxilary alsed funds with cookie sale Tempting treats of holiday sweets played the feature role at the Shavertown Auxiliary’s Cookie Sale in the lobby of Nesbitt Memorial Hospital. The cookies are crafted with care from traditional recipes and baked in the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company’s showroom kitchens on North Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. The utility company has provided services for many years and is a traditional sponsor of this holiday occasion. The annual event raises funds for the Shavertown Branch and enables members to continue their activities in support of Nesbitt Memorial Hospital. Meadows Auxiliary donates television to center The Auxiliary of the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, recently donated a large screen television and stand to the Therapeutic Recreaton Department at the Center to be used for residents’ group and individual activities. Proceeds from the Auxiliary’s annual fundraiser, “Market on the Pond” and fall Contra dance | February 8 The Folklore Society of North- eastern Pennsylvania and the Chicory House of Wilkes-Barre welcome singles, couples, begin- ners, young and old to the monthly New England Contra Dance, Sat- urday, Feb. 8. The dance will be held in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, South Fran- klin and Northampton Streets in downtown Wilkes-Barre, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Dancers should wear casual dress and comfortable, preferably soft-soled shoes. All dances will be taught. Music will be provided by The Fan Club, four outstanding musi- cians from the Philadelphia area whose music is as enjoyable just to listen to as it is for dancing. Bob Stein plays accordion, Betsy Adam- son, flute; Bob Pasquarello plays piano and Kathy Talvitie plays fiddle. All four are well known¥*ar the Delaware Valley Contra and English Country Dance scene; as members of other groups, among them A Band Named Bob and Rum and Onions. Several members of the band played together last year for the Wilkes-Barre Contra Dance, and many of the dancers present then still comment on the beauty and richness of their sound. The Fan Club makes vibrant, energetic and entertaining music for danc-. ing, from the Irist, New England and Southern traditions, and from the wealth of more recently com posed dance tunes, too. Barb Grabowski is a Harrisbhé area caller (and transplanted Ver- monter) who has absorbed dancé styles from New England, West: Virginia and the South. She espe-; _ cially likes to get newcomers up and dancing. Her dances are acs cessible for the beginner, satisfy- ing for the more experienced, and! fun for all.
