DOVE Post Staff After considering additional tes- timony concerning the application of Mrs. Carol Carroll of 368 Machell Ave. for a special exception to the zoning ordinance so that she could openabeautyshopin herbasement, the Dallas Borough Zoning Board approved Mrs. Carroll's application. The zoning board had voted unanimously at its October 24 ses- sion to continue the hearing until Novemberl4 so that neighbors Doreen Wills and Elizabeth Lloyd could presentadditional testimony supporting their objections to the business. Their objections centered onincreased trafficon Machell Ave. and possible contamination of nearby residential wells from the Carrolls’ septic system. Attorney John Geddes represented the Car- rolls at the hearing. “I have no problem with the beauty shop operating as a busi- ness, except where its results will affect my ground well water,” Lloyd stated. She presented each zoning board member with an information packet which she said supported her objections. Evidence in the packet included written statements from a geolo- gist, achemistand a hydrologist, as well as soil survey maps of Luzerne County and a sketch depicting the degree of slope between the two residences which Lloyd had pre- pared herself. CHARGED WITH THEFT Michael Casselbury, 24, of RD 1 Meshoppen, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property for taking two steel doors and 15 sheets of plywood belonging to Gary Phillips from a construction site in the borough, police said. DALLAS BOROUGH MEN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN According to Dallas Borough police, Michael Leonard Endru- sick, 28, of Wilkes Barre and Wil- liam Allen Wylie, 22, of Nanticoke were arrested and charged with attempted burglary, conspiracy and possessing the instruments of a crime. Police said that the two men were apprehended attempt- ing to break into the Hozy-K Tav- ern on Main Street., Dallas. Margaret Hill, 24, of Hanover Township, was arrested November 16 and charged with DUI after failing to pass a field sobriety test and refusing to undergo a BAC test. She was also cited with two Motor Vehicle Code violations: fol- lowing too closely and failure to dim her high beams for an oncom- ing vehicle. Stephen David ‘Maley, 33, of Wilkes Barre, was charged with DUI and possession‘of drug para- phenalia November 17. Police also cited Maley for driving with an expired or suspended operator's license and driving with an expired motor vehicle registration. DRIVER, PASSENGER ARRESTED FOR CON- CEALED GUN, DRUGS According to Dallas Borough police, Chester Frederick Degroff, 43 of Harveys Lake was arrested and charged with carrying a con- cealed unregistered firearm, a 7.62 mm Russian Tokarev pistol, with- out a permit. He was also cited for passing another vehicle by using the center turning lane. A passen- ger in his vehicle, Samuel Edward Traver, 31, of Shawanese, was arrested for possession of mari- juana and possession” of drug paraphenalia. DALLAS TOWNSHIP TWO-CAR ACCIDENT According to Dallas Township police, a 1987 Nissan operated by Kimberly Ann Barber, 18, of RD 1 Dallas and a 1985 Buick operated by Sister Miriam Ruth Brennan of Larksville were involved in a broad- side accident Saturday afternoon, November 9. Police said that the Barber vehicle was traveling south on Route 309 when the Brennan vehicle pulled out onto the high- way from Woodlawn Ave. The front of the Barber vehicle hit the side of the ‘Brennan vehicle, police said. Charges against one of the drivers are pending, police said. Ms. Bar- ber was transported to Wilkes Barre General Hospital by the Dallas Ambulance. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AT DALLAS HIGH SCHOOL Dallas Township police investi- gated an act of criminal mishcief November 8 at Dallas High School. Police said that the window in a classroom was hit and cracked, apparently with a BB or slingshot. The damage is estimated at ap- proximately $700, police said. Dallas Township Patrolman Elliot Ide investigated the incident. HARASSMENT AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF According to Dallas Township police, David Charles Mitchell, 28, of RD 1 Dallas, was arrested and charged with harrassment and criminal mischief November 8. Police said that the charges are related to an incident in which Mitchell smashed out the car win- dows at aresidence at RD 3 Dallas. Dallas Township Patrolman Robert Jolley investigated the incident. NAKED MAN IN TRUCK CHASES HOCKEY TEAM Dallas Township police are in- vestigating an incident in which a naked man in a dark blue pickup truck pursued a school bus trans- porting. the Dallas. girls’ hockey team on Friday, November 8. Po- lice said that the driver followed the team bus up Route 309, pull- ing alongside it and turning on his vehicle's inside light. Anees Barakat abstained. from voting on the question, while, zoning chairman William Taborand secretary Joseph Dwinchick voted in favor of it.
