Four years in the writing, Scarlett is the product of painstaking research, admiration and respect for the original work and the fertile imagination of ac- complished and bestselling his- torical writer, Alexandra Ripley. The story picks up the narrative, bringing us back to Tara and the people we remember so well: Rhett, Ashley, Mammy, Suellen, Aunt Pittypat and Scarlett herself. We meet fascinating new men and women and continue the love af- fair between Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler, the greatest lover affair in all fiction, and reach its startling culmination. “Airman Mortensen” by Michael Blake is a humorous and tender new story of first love, of a boy on the brink of manhood and a nation on the eve of change. When he meets Claire Brill, they fall in love with the intensity and beauty of first love, and the spirit of youth. By CHARLOT M. DENMON - Staff Writer The Back Mountain's newest veterinarian graduated in May from Purdue University and he is enthusiastic about his new ca- reer. He is working in a field he has wanted since he was seven years of age. David Matthew Hennessey of Syracuse, New York is newly-in- stalled at Dallas Veterinary Clinic, located on Center Hill Road in Dallas. “I've always liked animals, any kind, and I have no preference in treating them,” Hennessey said recently. “I like to help small animals, large animals, and even birds. Since I was a small kid I loved to be around animals and wanted to help them. “I tried engineering for a while but didn't like it. I wanted to be nothing but a vet.” ; He was the first in his family to "look toward a medical career. He has five brothers and six sisters; one of his sisters is now employed in a medical records department and two of his younger brothers say they want to be veterinarians. “We'll see, they're young yet,” said Hennessey. Hennessey wanted to come back to the East Coast, so when he graduated in May and found there was an opening in the Back Mountain area, he sent in a res- ume. When offered the opportu- nity he took advantage of it. It helps, perhaps, that his girlfriend is a veterinarian in Exeter. “I like it here,” Hennessey said. “The area is similar to Syracuse with trees and mountains and the climate is comparable.” He has purchased a house near Mount Olivet and his goal is to stay here. He enjoys outdoor activities and Frances Slocum State Park. He also spends a lot of his leisure time (not much) work- ing on his new home. Hennessey and his girlfriend Area's newest vet loves his NEW VETERINARIAN - Matthew Hennessey has recently moved | to the Back Mountain and is practicing veterinary medicine at Dallas Y WO rk | Veterinary Clinic. Most of Hennessey's time is spent working since the clinic is open six days weekly, closed only on Wednesday. “I find most of the people who come in with their animals very friendly. Most of the patients to R date have been small animals, dogs, cats, arabbit and a ferret. We have also had some horses and farm | animal calls are picking up. The | busier it is the more I enjoy it,” Hennessey said. Conservation District will tour area farms | The Luzerne County Conserva- tion District will sponsor the 12th annual Fall Farm/Conservation Tour on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This year we will be touring parts of neighboring Columbia County as well as Luzerne. After lunch, we will make a brief stop at Kile's roadside produce stand. Our final stop will be a tour of a com- posting facility at Yule’s Pride Farm in Millville. Door prizes will be awarded at the luncheon. The tour is limited to two buses which will leave the Agricultural i Service Cehter, 71 North Market | Street, Nanticoke on Saturday, Oct. | 19.
