Tie PALLASC0ST Vol. 102 No. 38 Wednesday, September 25, 1991 Sports\Week Knights hold on to beat Hoban | By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer '.“Coach Rich Gorgone was sur- prised when his Lake-Lehman Knights scored early in their game with Bishop Hoban last Saturday. But he was more surprised when the Argents came back in the second half to score three touch- downs on his team. “I knew they had improved since the season started, but I never expected them to come back so strong in the second half,” Gor- gone said. The Argents scored once in the first half but the Knights behind Rich Lamoreaux’s running and three touchdowns gave the Knights a 27-7 lead and made them confident going into the locker room at halftime. The Argents didn't give up and scored on their first possession of the second half after Eli Saba “The meat of our schedule is coming up and we haven't really been tested.” Rich Gorgone Lake-Lehman coach picked up 38 yards on three plays and Brian Murphy scored from 31 yards out of the endzone. The Knights fumbled on their next possession and the Argents end Gary Fedorczyk recovered the balland went 25 yards for a touch- down to move the score to 27-21. With only four minutes left in the game Lamoreaux took the ball and ran it for47 yards into theend zone to give the Knights a 14- point margin. He added two points by running for the extra points. The Argents scored one more touchdown on a pass by Fedorczyk to Eli Saba who took it for one yard and a score. But the point after the touchdown was blocked and the game ended 35-27. “We're idle this week,” said Coach Gorgone. “That's good because it gives our kids time to get healthy. We meet Meyers the following week and they are get- ting better with every game. “I wasn't pleased with our de- fense this past week. They fumbled too many times and you can't win a game on fumbles. Our defense did a good job but we have to get better,” Gorgone said. “The meat of our schedule is coming up and we haven't really been tested. Meyers has a great runner in Tucker and we've got to stop him. They also have good players in Griffiths, Moore and Labatch. We have a way to go before we can say we're a good team.” BiG GAIN - Mountaineeer Dave Pode! @7)1e — of for a big gain on Meyers return punt in Satur- day’s game at the Dallas field before two Mohawk defenders stop him. We had some chances to score though when the kids made some mistakes, but they are im- proving. Near the end of the sec- ond half we were inside the 20- yard line but lost the ball on downs. Dallas plays Coughlin this Sat- urday at home. “Coughlin is a tough team,” said Jackson. “They are big and physi- cal and they could have beat Nan- ticoke. Their tailback Joe O'Don- nell is the best in the league. They came close to beating Berwick. It will be a tough game for us. “Our kids have the skills but they don't have the experience. They will have to play perfect foot- ball to win. We have to start win- ning the close ones. We will have a lot of work during this week,” Jackson said.
