Cavill also intercepted a fourth pass in the third period but the play was called back on a penalty occurring before the interception. Northwest fumbled on the opening kickoffs and Cavill recovered on the Rangers 23-yard line. Bob Spencer scored the touchdown and Dave Larkin kicked the extra point. Cavill intercepted a third down pass in Northwest's second series from scrimmage and returned it from the Knights’ 49 to the Rangers’ 37. Spencer scored the second touchdown and Larkin made the kick. Cavill made his second and third interception in the second quarter with Spencer taking one of them in for another Knights score, and Lamoreaux taking the ball over for the fourth score. The Knights scored their final touchdown in the third period on a nine yard pass by quarterback Pat McManus to Chris Ziomek. The Knights play Bishop Hafey at Lake-Lehman this weekend. Xe Lehman takes Valley West Jim Hynick hit a 37 at Irem golf course Monday to take medalist as ‘the Knights defeated the Spartans 173-180. Jesse Sorber shot 43, Rob Trescavage shot 46 and Mark Shission hit 47. The win moved the Knights to 4-1. Knight soccer continues unbeaten The Black Knights defeated Coughlin 8-3 in a soccer match Monday on the Crusaders field. Brian Kelly scored four goals for the Knights and assisted on a goal by Jason ‘McDade. Kelly scored first off an assist by Will Woronko, scored again in the second period unassisted, and in the third and fourth periods off assists by Salko. E. Stogoski, Dan Lukasavage, and K. Miroslaw scored the other goals for the Knights who continue undefeated. Harriers beat Seton, Northwest «8 Black Knights harriers took five of the top six places in their meet ws Seton Catholic to win 20-35 September 3. Seton Catholic’s Eric Mateka took the top place but the Knights Charley Jacoby was right behind him for second in 16:40. Bob Ruggere came in third, followed by Jason Case, Chris Campbell and Dan Wilson. In Thursday's meet, Jacoby came in first to lead the Knights toa 25- 30 win over Northwest. Case finished third, Campbell sixth, Ruggere, seventh and Wilson eighth to give Lake-Lehman the win. Golfers top Pittston, O'Reilly ake-Lehman's Black Knights golfers moved their record to 3-1 last Friday by defeating Bishop O'Reilly 163-167 paced by Nikki Sennett who copped medalist honors with a one over-37 par at the Four Seasons Golf Club. g/eff Hynick shot 40 for the Knights and Mark Shission and Rod Trescavage each hit 43. Jason Michael's 38 was the top honor for the Queensmen. Earlier in the week the Knights took Pittston Patriots 178-202 with Trescavage showing the way with a six over-par 40. Hynick followed with a 43. Shission scored 46 and Jesse Sorber shot 49. The Patriots Ken Patucci and Bryan Smith took low medalists hitting 49's. Girls field hockey ties 1-1 . Coughlin surprised the Black Knights September 6 with their strong defense playing to a 1-1 tie. Alison Drendall scored the Crusaders only i in the first half. The Lady Knights scored their goal off a penalty strike by Jen Cross in the second half. Cross had a second opportunity seconds later but failed. ; The game went into overtime but neither team was able to score. Lake-Lehman kickers win openers The Lake-Lehman soccer team opened the season with a 3-1 win over Abington Heights September 4. Brian Kelly scored the first goal for the Knights off an assist by Will Woronko. : Woronko scored a goal unassisted and Dan Lukasavage scored off an assist by Tim Norconk. Woronko led the Knights with three goals in their 5-1 win over Bishop Hoban September 6 at Hoban’s field. Woronko scored early in the game to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. A L later Eric Stogoski scored unassisted to move the team to 2-0. Kelly scored in the second period on a direct kick when Woronko scored the final two points for the Knights in the fourth period. DENMON Staff Writer Mounts grind out 6-0 win Coach Ted Jackson was pleased with the defensive effort of his Mountaineers in their game against Bangor last Saturday. “Our offense made a couple of bad plays but our defense played well and kept us on top. They never gave up and came back to play well in the second half,” Jackson said. Neither team was able to put the ball in the end zone in the first half until next to the final play when the Mountaineers quarterback John Morris hit Dave Podehl with a touchdown pass. The kick for extra point was blocked and Dallas led 6-0 at the end of the half. In the second half Bangor came out planning to play a passing game but a turnover and the Mountaineers tough defense gave Bangor only four second half yards and stopped them from scoring. Dallas gained 113 yards on the ground, most of it by Brian Burd who carried the ball 27 times for a total of 73 yards, 57 of them in the second half. They also totaled 124 yards in the air. Cross Country tops Valley West Dallas cross country team defeated Wyoming Valley West 16-42 Monday over the Spartans course. Mountaineers Eric Williams, Brad Barket and Matt Samuel finished in identical times of 17:30 to lead the team to the win. Ryan Schuler finished fourth for Dallas in 18:03 to give the Mountaineers four of the first five spots. Shawn Miller came in sixth and Brian Crispell eighth for the Dallas team. The Hazleton golfers hit scores from 40 to 45 while the Dallas players hit scores from 45 through 52. Dallas runners take Hazleton Mountaineer Brad Barket led three Dallas runners across the finish line first as they posted an opening day win over Hazleton September 3. Barket crossed the line first in 18:08 and Matt Samuel crossed with the same time. Eric Williams came in third in 18:29. Brian Crispell came in sixth, Ryan Schuler, seventh and Kevin Loeffler, eighth to give the Dallas team their 21-37 win. The Mountaineers defeated Hanover Area 18-43 Thursday with Samuel finishing first in 16:15. Brad Barket came in second in 16:43 and Eric Williams third in 17:04. Brian Campbell finished fifth, Shawn Miller seventh, Ryan Schuler eighth, and Alec Baird, ninth assisting in the win. Harveys Lake Little Leauge meeting The Harveys Lake Little League will hold a meeting Wednesday, Sept. 11. Wilkes to play free football game For the second consecutive year the Wilkes University football team will play one of its home games at the Lackawanna County Multi- Purpose Stadium. . The Colonels will play Susquehanna University on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. in a Middle Atlantic Conference game. Admission to the game will be free for all fans it was announced by Wilkes. It will give all football fans a chance to see this area's only Division III football in action against one of its conference rivals. Rasimus and Corey Crawford each had four-over par 36s to share medalist honors. : Soccer defeats Bishop Hoban Dallas scored three goals in the third period of their soccer match with Bishop Hoban to overcome the Argents 2-0 lead and continue for a 3-2 win. The Argents took a 2-0 lead by scoring a goal in the second period and one in the third. In the third period the Mountaineers came alive and Andy Flint scored unassisted. Bill Richardson scored a second goal off an assist by Joe Ankenbrand and Brian Miller scored with an assist by Eric Ursiak. Dallas’ Justin Swain and Pat Scoble had 11 saves for Dallas. Dallas had 22 shots on goal and five corner shots.
