Lecture on breweries set for Sept. 7 Pennsylvania Brewery Historian Rich Wagner of Hatboro will pres- ent a slide lecture on The History of the Brewing Indsutry in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties, Satur- day, Sept .7, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church hall, 47 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. Wagner and his partner Rich Dochter of Lock Haven have been working since 1980 to document all of the breweries in the Com- monwealth. Both have conducted extensive research on the brewer- ies of our area and served as guides for a tour of area breweries this past May. : The lecture is being sponsored by the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society in conjunction with the exhibit on the Brewing Industry in Luzerne and Lacka- wanna Counties which will be on display at the Society's Museum through November 1. The exhibition features photo- graphs, promotional objects and other artifacts representing the many breweries which once oper- ated in our area. A donation of $2 per person will be requested at the door. Proceeds will be placed in the Society's Education Fund. Frances Slocum Park offers environmental Frances Slocum State Park is beginning a new Fall season of environmental education. Frances Slocum State Park of- fers personalized nature programs for any organized groups. Come out to the park and move the class- room outside for a day. A variety of hikes and activities are offered to groups of all ages. If traveling to the park is too difficult, it is pos- education sible for the Naturalist to come to your group and conduct a guest talk on a variety of subjects. All programs are absolutely free, but you must pre-register. Pro- grams can be conducted Sunday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. September through November. Piatt, Sr. for her years of commu- nity service with the Harveys Lake Women's Service Club. Mrs Piatt has been a member of the club since 1935 and has served on a variety of committees including the cook book committee. She is the mother of nine children and the grandmother of 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildzen.
