Sue Hand to hold exhibition of plein air painting in Sept. ~ En Plein Air '91, an exhibit of art painted in the plein air tradition of working outdoors in actual light- ing and atmospheric conditions will open on Labor Day weekend at Sue Hand's Imagery in Dallas. , Sixteen local artists will be pre- senting their paintings of Back Mountain, and Wyoming Valley landscapes, as well as florals, and architectural studies in styles that began about 1850 with the Ro- mantics and the Barbizon paint- ers and culminated with the Im- pressionists such as Monet, Re- noir, Sisley, Pissarro, and the Post Impressionist Van Gogh. Scenes from Dallas, Vernon, Beaumont, Benton, Lehman, Har- veys Lake, Carverton, Sweet Val- ley, Trucksville, Wyoming, Wilkes- Barre, Kingston, and elsewhere have been depicted by the artists in a variety of media. Although very few watercolorists work pleinair since conditions are so difficult, and plein air water- calor paintings are rare, the Im- agery exhibit will include many examples of watercolors as well as plein air oil, ink, colored pencil, pastel and mixed media. The artists who have painted together in small groups since June to create the body of work for exhibition include Sue Hand, Leigh Pawling, Helene Gurdin, Jean Fader, and Barbara Campbell, all of Dallas; Diane Czajkowski of Ashley; Eileen Schmidt, Mountain- top; Emily Siegal and Nikki Sen- nett, Harveys Lake; Henry Doran, Shavertown; Katherine Brunza and Michelle Christopher, Kingston; Eileen Warren, Wyoming; Edie Kozicki, Falls; Patricia Strish and.
