Handicap
The Sunset Handicap Sail-
boat Race sponsored by the
Harveys Lake Yacht Club was
held at the lake on Sunday,
Aug. 11. Eighteen sailboats
representing all parts of the
lake participated.
Thirty individuals were in-
volved in sailing and managing
the race. Great enthusiasmwas
evident in all those who en-
tered the race with many look-
ing forward to a similar event in
the future.
The idea of the race was first
proposed by Race Chairman,
Frank Wadas. Wadas brings to
his job many years of racing
and cruising experience at
Harveys Lake, the Chesapeake
Bay and the Florida Keys.
The race was held under
steady winds of 6 to 8 knots
originating in the west. The
: course for all boats except the
board boats was quadrangu-

lar, the board boat course was
a modified triangle. Trophy
sponsors were Grotto Pizza of
Harveys Lake, Great Bags of
Kingston, The Harveys Lake
Protective Association and the
Yacht Club.
Commodore Clinton J.
Lehman posted the following
results: Board boats first place,
Dale Campbell;second place,
Dawn Blom; third place, Dave
Hoffman.
The Board Boat Trophy was
sponsored by Great Bags.
The Novice Trophy sponsored
by Grotto Pizza was won by Bill
Runner and crew Leigh
Schoner; second place Brian
Moore and Anne Batory; and

The Irem Temple Country Club
Ladies Golf Association held a
Kickers Tournament on August 6
with Regina Whitesell as the win-
ner. The winner of the weekly prize
in Flight D went to Edith Jones
The Luzerne County 4-H Horse
and Pony Round-Up was held
August 3 with 38 members com-
peting in 51 English, western,
gymikhana and novice classes.
Extension Agent, Donna Grey,
states that the purpose of this show
was for members to demonstrate
their riding skills, one against
another.
The top three placings will now
represent Luzerne County at the
District 4-H Horse Show to be held
August 17 at Dallas.

John Szela, director of the ProShot basketball camp, assisted by
Paul Jobson, conducted a boys junior high school mini-camp the
weekend of July 26 through July 28.
Among the contest winners were five boys from the local area
including Billy Jenkins of Dallas, golf contest winner; A.J. Finarelli,
Dallas, Hot Shot winner; Bill Puchalsky, Wyoming, 2-on-2 and 5-
on-5 winner; J.P. Cosgrove, Dallas, layups winner and 5-on-5
winner; and Dan Podehl, Dallas, 5-on-5 winner.

Irem ladies golf tourney results
A Member-Member Tournament
was held on Tuesday July 16 by
the Irem Temple Ladies Golf Asso-
ciation at the Irem Temple Coun-
try Club. Winning teams were:
First, Gail Killeen, Bob Choi, Ar-
lene Hemence, Evelyn Eck-On
Blind Draw; Second, Angela Kim,

Title tilt set for Wednesday
Runnin’ Bulls, Fieldhouse will
meet for Dallas rec roundball title
The Runnin’ Bulls paced by Joe
Flaherty's 34 points, reached the
championship game of the Dallas
Rec/Fieldhouse Adult Basketball
League by downing the Domina-
tors 75-73, Bob Jones chipped in
16 for the winners while Ray Russin
had a tremendous game with 33
for the losers. The Bulls will now
face the Fieldhouse for the overall
championship on Wednesday,
Augustl4, at 6:30 p.m. Both teams
have lost only one game this sum-
mer and this game promises to be
a thriller with the Fieldhouse team
style game in contrast to the one
man show in Joe Flaherty for the
Bulls.
The 12-16 year old league
wrapped up play this past week
with a pair of games. The cham-
pion Runnin’ Recters finished ona
winning note by nipping the Bad
Boys 54-52. Jeff Kunkle led the
winners with 15 while Joe Noon |
added 12. Tim Puz, who will or |
be entering the 7th grade this fall, |
had a tremendous game re |
losers with 24 points and several |
broke into double figures with 10. |
In the final game of the season, |
George Marut banged in 35 points ||
to lead the Mavericks to a 44-42 ||

Back Mountain Teeners finish season

Back Mountain 14-15 year-old
teeners won by a 9-0 forfeit August
1 over East End when the game
was halted by the umpires after 3
1/2 innings due to unsportsman-
like conduct by the East Enders.
The local team was leading 9-4
when the game was halted with
Ernie Chamberlain hitting a grand
slam homerun. He also had a
