Back Mountain briefs Dr. Bozzuto is NASCAR consultant Dr. James Bozzuto of Vision Associates of Dallas was the Eye Care Consultant for the Miller Genuine Draft 500 NASCAR race held at Pocono Raceway on July 21. Dr. Bozzuto was part of the infield treatment center staff at the race. The infield treatment center staff is comprised of orthopedics, cardiol- ogy, eye care and trauma specialsits. As the eye consultant he took care of members of Geoff Bodine and Dale Earnhardt's pit crew who had corneal injuries during the race. Loyalville UMC slates ice cream social An Ice Cream Social will be held at the Loyalville United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Serving: home- made ice cream, wimpies, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, pie, coffee, ice tea and kool aid. HL residents asked to pick up recycling cans Harveys Lake Borough year round and summer residents are reminded to pick up their recycling containers at the Recreation Center from Monday, Aug: 5 through Aug. 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Until that time they may be picked up at the Harveys Lake Borough Office. Bible School at Sweet Valley Aug. 11-15 Children and young adults, 3 years old through 9th grade completed are invited to attend Vacation Bible School at the Church of Christ in Sweet Valley. It will begin Sunday, Aug. 11 and will run through Thursday, Aug. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The week will include nightly puppet entertainment, crafts, refreshments, lessons, and a special Fun Fair with games and prizes. You will also have the opportunity to meet a chicken that lays colored eggs. There will be a closing program on Sunday, Aug. 18t7 p.m. at which time friends and relatives are invited. The Church of Christ is located on Main Road, Sweet Valley, approximately 2.5 miles from Sheldon'’s Diner. A bus will be providing transportation for those in need. This fund was established by the Trustees for the sole pur- pose of providing income support for missions. Mrs. Brace, age 99, has been a Dallas resident and Dallas United Methodist Church member for the past 49 years, and she currently resides at the Meadows Nursing Open burning banned in Environmental Resources Sec- retary Arthur A. Davis has an- nounced that open burning has been banned in state parks and forests in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Sullivan counties. “The ban is necessary because of extremely dry conditions and because the number of fires in the three counties has increased sharply in the past week,” Davis said, July 19. The three counties are among 27 counties in Pennsylvania hard- est hit by the current drought. The ban covers Lackawanna and Wyo- ming state forests and Worlds End, Ricketts Glen, Frances Slocum, Lackawanna and Archbald Pothole state parks. In the two forest districts that cover the three counties, 27 fires have burned 71 acres so far this month. The vast majority - 22 fires damaging 65 acres - have occurred since Monday. “That is nearly four times the number of fires and 10 times the acreage reported in the districts y Center, Dallas.
