Ryan Oakley was outstanding on the mound striking out eight and allowing only one hit and one run in five innings. Geoff Engle finished the game pitching two strong innings for the local team. Oakley went 5-for-5 at the plate with three triples. John Oliver drove out 4-for-6. Rick Klick, Mike Adamchick andJason Seward had » hits each. Engle hit a two-run homer and Oakley picked up five RBI's. Back Mountain’ reached the finals by defeating the team from Nanticoke 11-4 on July 20 and coming back to defeat the South Wilkes-Barre team 5-2 on July 24. Ryan Oakley got the win by pitching five strong innings for Back Mountain against Nanticoke, giving up only one run on two hits. John Oliver pitched the final twc innings. Oakley also had a fine game at the plate, going 2 for 3. Kevin McDonald was 2-for 2 with two walks. Geoff Engle was also 2- for-3 with two RBI's. Joe Aken- rand, John Oliver, Rich Klick and Jason Seward also had hits for Back Mountain. On Wednesday, July 24, Back Mountain also had their ace Rvan Oakley on the mound. Oakley went the distance striking out sever. while giving up just four hits. Jason: Seward, Back Mountain's sharp second baseman had a great de- fensive game being involved in eight put-outs. Geoff Engle and John Oliver both went 2-for-3 with RBI's and Rich Klick added an RBI double. Runnin’ Knights win makes 3-way tie for first in rec basketball league The Runnin’ Knights led by Joe Flaherty’'s 22 and Bob Jones’ 20 points defeated the previously unbeaten Fieldhouse 77-73 in the Fieldhouse /Dallas Rec Adult Bas- ketball League. Paul Jobson had 18 points for the losers. The loss created a three-way tie for first place with the Knights, Fieldhouse and Dominators all holding down 4.1 marks heading into this bdnesday's opening playoff found. In other games the Dominators got back on the winning track with a 67-46 win over the Mounts. Damon Lisnow took scoring hon- ors for the winners with 16 points while Dave Puz hd 13 for the Mounts now 1-5. The Silver Bullets got their first win of the year by dumping Bilko's Bullets 56-51. Karl Reiff led the winners with 14 points while Mike Luksic led Bilko’s with 18. The losers of these games will be elimi- nated. : In the 12-16 Year Old League the Bad Boys got their first win of the year by defeating the Bulls 57- 40. Andy Flint led the boys with 13 points while Jim Moran chipped in 12. Brian Ford had 18 points in a losing effort the Runnin Recsters took over sole possession of first place with a 49-35 win over the Mavericks. Gerald West Side teeners baseball tops Back Mountain, 6-2 By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer West Side, behind Brian Sey- bert's 10 strikeouts and five hits, took a 6-2 win from Back Moun- tain in the 16-year-old All Star Tournament Monday at Artillery Park. The West Side team took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and Back Mountain made it 1-1 in the top of the second after going in front 2-1 in the bottom of the sec- ond the West Siders exploded in the fourth inning for four runs led by Paul Dymond and Brian Wil- liams at the plate. Dymond had 2-for-3 at the plate and Williams knocked out a three run homer. Shortstop Jeff Malak hit 2-for-4 for the Back Mountain, one of his hits a double and Davies had two singles. Eric Stogoski was the losing pitcher. The win advanced West Side to play against South Wilkes-Barre today (Wednesday) in the annual Teeners Tournament at Christian Field. Sports Club plans fund raising dance Back Mountain Sports Club, sponsor of the Back Mt. Teener League and the Back Mt. 13-year old division, will conduct their one major fund raiser for the 1991 season. A dance will be held Friday, Aug. 23, at the pavilion at Irem Temple Country Club from 8:30 to 12 a.m. The dance will feature the very popular Poets. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
